Restoration Project and Miria mod ?

Avallach

Hey guys,

I was told that Here is the supposed "Miria mod working with R. Project"... the problem is, that the filefront link is stone cold dead and after 17 minutes of googling, I didn't managed to find any other links :(

So, I want to ask you if anybody has a working link for this ?

Apologies if this is the wrong section.

Oh...wow thanks ! I didn't expected somebody to answer so I gave up :)

Just a question, if it migh be compatible with the the next version of RP ?

You're welcome. I examined this addon and didn't like the way it was done, so I never used it, but decided to keep the file just in case. I'm glad if it was of any use to you.

No, it will require adaptation because at least the "party.txt" file is going to be modified in the 1.3 version, and almost certainly the others too, because new critters will be added.

Really ? I actually thought that it was pretty much useful, making Miria less of a burden (It's like with Aerie in BG2, minus the romance :D).

Or are there any other Miria/Davin/Burden NPCs mods I am not aware of ?

Adaptation.... so there would be a chance for a 1.3 RP version right ? :)
I would do it myself (party.txt using WinMerge at least) but Iam not so sure about those critters... :(

This mod is very sloppy to say the least. Miria is configured to have 8 levels, but due to an engine limitation she'll never reach the last two. The protos for her additional levels look like they weren't properly edited, but just haphazardy taken from different critters: each level has different baseframe, internal damage resistance soars to 999 for the second and third levels, then drops to 0 for the fourth one and soars to 999 again for the fifth and sixth, all the additinal level protos have Kill Type set to "Men", save one, which has it set to "Robots" , only the protos for the third and eighth (unreachable) levels have any additional skillpoints and all of them are for the skills that are useless for a party member (Gambling, Science and Speech), her gender is "male" for all the additional levels except for the third one...

None that I'm aware of, but the thing is you can make Miria or anyone else as good as you want in a matter of minutes without downloading and installing any mods. Just edit the respective proto with a proto editor :ok: But I don't like the idea of going against developers' intentions. In case of Miria, they clearly intended her to be a weak and skill-less NPC, so "improving" her seems like cheating.

If someone does the job, then obviously yes.

I mean that the protos 509 to 515 that are unoccupied in the current version of RP and were used for additional levels of this mod, will be occupied by the new critters added to the next version of RP. You'll need to edit each and every file of the mod except mcMiria.int and Read Me First.txt to reflect this. It's pretty easy when you have the modding skills.

Hm, yes but she is actually the only female follower in the game and it's too bad that it has been wasted on this crap NPC :?

Okay then...but let's say that I want also include the comments (floating text during certain events) and ability to make her wait..is it included in the proto files or do I need to edit something else ? :)

I agree. IMO those 2 burden NPC's (Miria & Davin) are a silly "punishment" and it almost seems like a cheap joke on the player by the devs. Other companion NPC's gain experience and therefore levels and better skills by traveling through the wasteland and using those skills, but those 2 are in a completely comatose state. They're basically like one of those cursed items in baldur's gate, which sucks because they're supposed to be "people". Making them weak and with low skills does not preclude the logical (with the rest of the game) possibility of them gaining eperience and levels. Like they are, they are context-breaking (like so many other things in FO2...)

If they wanted to make them have more of a burden without the above, they could have just made the "married" karmic tittle be more influential in the game world (by for example, being a factor to account for, when trying to sleep with Mrs. Bishop in New Reno).

It's much worst in the case of Miria given that she's the only possible female companion NPC.

In my last FO2 playthrough a while ago, i used the Miria mod with vanilla FO2, and combined with the old B-team armor mod, and i gotta say, combat armored female companion wielding a plasma rifle was all i needed. :)

I wonder why BIS chose to be so .... well, sexist! It does seems a shame there are no female NPC's of note. Further, IMO, the female critters generally look somewhat ... unconvincing. For me, they're way too barbie-doll like and whenever i watch a female critter fighting i think it looks slightly absurd. Personally, i would have made at least some of the female critters more tomboy-like than barbie-doll-like ....

Hehe, you could automate a 5% increase in width for a female critter so she looks more... muscular. :P

That's pretty much exactly what they are. But I don't have a problem with that.

However, I'll agree that it's a shame they didn't make a "true" female NPC companion.

On a somewhat related note, Restoration Project 1.3 does contain three new, fully fleshed out and functional NPCs . . .

You lost your bet. For all I know, one of them is female

It's in the files mcMiria.int and mcMiria.msg, you will only need to edit them if the original files are modified in the next version of RP.

Here is info about all the files that are involved, along with their locations: http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/Miria_mod

I was aware of those Miria protos being goofy, but they work well enough in Megamod. I am not familiar enough with proto tinkering to fix them, (afraid I would mess it up even more) but if somebody does, I would like to have better versions also.
