Restorattion Project Question and/or Help

Calmador

First time out of the vault
So this seems to be the best patch I've found for fallout 2

And my problem is I've never installed a patch/mod in my life, so far it seems when I look around it seems as easy as just click and download. But I know I'm doing something wrong.

First of all, a question... does this patch/mod give you the option.. of playing the game without the extra content, the content that the developers didn't put in the game? I'm not sure if I'd like to.

Second, I think I did a humongous installation... I have the fallout trilogy and I'm not sure but I read somewhere that if I installed by that version of the game then that's my only option so I think I'm good with that... when I installed the game, it didnt give me any option so it looks like it's true. Also I read on a thread that was recently posted that if I have windows 7 I should install the game somewhere else instead of /programfiles... I did that too.

So after that I tried installing the patch... I'm the part where it says... "Select Destination Location Where should Fallout Restoration Project be installed?" and Im not sure where to put it so I guessed in Fallout 2 folder... and I get this message "Fallout 2 Restoration Project must be installed to the main Fallout 2 installation directory . Please make sure the file Fallout2.exe is in the directory you are installing to." And theres an "Ok" reply to that message for me to click on.

So I don't know where exactly to install it or what to do next... please help (sigh)

Note: I tried following this guide.. http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/FO2_mod_install_guide

And definitely did step #3. Check your FO2 folder, for a file called patch000.dat, if you have it delete or rename it.

I deleted... if that matters

Also.. thanks Killap for the patch, seems like you did quite a lot. Looking forward to making it work lol

Hello.

About your installation problem, it is as simple as clicking download and then following the setup wizard. It even deletes patch000.dat automatically for you. The destination is definitely supposed to be the main fallout 2 directory. The installer auto-detects it, at least for me, and it looks like this: C:\Games\Fallout 2.

If you're running Vista or a newer OS it's recommended you don't have the game installed in the Program Files directory, even though it shouldn't be causing this particular issue.

Really, if you don't mess with the auto-detected destination location you shouldn't be having problems... are you sure you have the latest version of this patch (2.1.2b) ?

If you don't want the additional content then you want the Unofficial Fallout 2 patch, made by Killap as well, and found at killap.net. But i strongly recommend you try to get the Restoration Project to work because it is the highest quality Fallout 2 mod out there. All of the extra content feels as if it was designed by the original developers and I can't imagine playing without it.

Hey, thanks for responding

"The installer auto-detects it, at least for me, and it looks like this: C:\Games\Fallout 2. "

What I get on my screen is "C:\ " ..... a blank. I wish it looked like you mentioned "C:\Games\Fallout 2." but since I get nothing I figured I had to browse for my fallout 2 folder and I tried that... I even tried "C:\Games\Fallout 2" and basically I keep getting an error message.

Also, yup my OS is Windows 7 Professional (64bit) and yeah I didn't install Fallout trilogy in Program files or Program Files (x86).

I installed F2_Restoration_Project_2.1.2b so yeah it's 2.1.2b and I don't think I messed with auto-detect, the only thing I did that might be relative was NOT installing the game in program files.

About the extra content... it's just that while I've played the game before... I never finished it and I'm sorta afraid it might ruin the experience. But I'm leaning towards installing the Restoration project since most people seem to give it the thumbs up... and I've only seen one post that thought the extra stuff wasn't good.

So once you get the error message the installer won't let you proceed, right?

That's really weird, try reinstalling the game if you haven't already. Install to a different location. Then see if the installer auto-detects the new directory, if not just make sure the path ends at "\Fallout 2" or similar.

If you still get nothing, tell me what does the inside of your Fallout 2 main folder look like. I've no idea how the trilogy pack installs the games but the Technical Info page for this patch on the wiki says Trilogy pack owners have nothing to worry about...

It's definitely not an issue with your modern OS, I've got Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I've never had a problem.

And once you get past this annoying error the next step allows you to pick what content you want. The only thing that will stay no matter what are the new locations, but they aren't critical in the game.

Where exactly did you install Fallout 2?
Can you please write the path?

Maybe you wrote it wrong in the installer or something, but it should be as easy as to just write down your Fallout 2 path into the installer.
This is what mine looks like:
Code:
E:\Games\Fallout RP

Also, a note on using the browse function in the installer. When I use it it adds a new folder (called "New Folder") at the end for some strange reason. So if I browse to my Fallout RP folder it comes up as E:\Games\Fallout RP\New Folder in the text window.
This is not supposed happen. The installer is looking for Fallout2.exe, and since that "New Folder" is blank it can't find it and won't install.
So I just have to delete the new folder part and it installs fine.

Maybe the same thing happens to you?

I'm a bit surprised no one has reported this, or am I the only one it's happening to?

@ osek1994 and Darek

SUCCESS! I checked for version number on the bottom right corner... fixed the rainbow colors using Mash's patch which is within this patch... and I also looked for and found the rock that tells me if Im running Restoration Project 2.1.2b

I followed the instructions that Darek gave me..

"Also, a note on using the browse function in the installer.

And that fixed it.

@ osek1994 Just for your information and reply to your post...

Yeah after the error message basically Im stuck there, I can try to brows again or try to type a path again but cant go forward from that step.

I did reinstall the game once to a different place.

And yeah I did notice that it was optional, that's a + but Im gonna just gonna play it with the new content. =]

Thanks for your help

@ Derek just for your information and reply to your post...

I installed it in my personal username folder... ya know how you have different users on a pc... I installed on mine. I also once installed it on a folder called Sierra... which is a game company.. I have half-life 1 game of the year edition in that folder... and I got same problem on both installs

The path looked something like this... C:\Computer\ Local Disk \ Sierra\ Fallout 2\ New folder... it was sorta long and looked something like that and to fix it... all I had to do was remove the "New folder" phrase and SUCCESS

And the path that the the auto detector gave me was.... C:\

And nope apparently you weren't alone, the New Folder thing happened to me too lol

So thanks for your help peoples, Jesus loves you both just so you know =]

Hello got a question

While playing Killaps Restoration-Project 2.1.2b on windows 7, at random times the Mouse cursor goes nuts and starts moving the in a certain direction leaving the character unable to move. More or less freezing the game
