Restricted Area -- Anyone tried it yet? Any problems?

First time out of the vault
I just downloaded the English demo and get a nice message when I start it that says "Can't open DirectX Screen."

I'm guessing it's a problem with the available refresh rates because I have an nvidia card and WinXP and have forced refresh rates to the highest supported by my monitor -- only trouble is, all my other DX based games work fine in 3D, so I'm stymied.

So, just wondered if any of you have tried it and if you've had any problems with it yet. I wasn't going to even bother with it but the reviews all seem to point to the idea that it may be a game actually worth playing (to some of us, at least). If nobody here has tried it, I guess I'll e-mail them and see what happens, and report back if and when I get a response. Otherwise I'll mess around with it and post the solution if I can fix it myself, perhaps saving others from the same fate.

I have an nvidia card (g4 ti 4200 128M) and am running XP and the demo plays without any problems. Yours is the first post I've seen about having problems getting the demo to run.

Fixed It

'Sokay, I fingered it out. Just in case anyone else has forced refresh rates on their system, an easy fix is to go to the folder Restricted Area Demo\Data and open the file Options.dat in Notepad. You'll see a lot of stuff like the following:

1
; 1. Music (1:on/0:off)
1
; 2. Color Depth (1:32 Bit/0:16 Bit)
1
; 3. Sound Effects (1:on/0:off)

Note that the value is ABOVE the comment, not below it. So just change value no. 28 to the appropriate refresh rate for 1024x768 on your system:

60
; 28. Set monitor refresh rate (60,75,85,100 etc.) <- 60 RUNS SMOOTHEST!

In my case, I changed it to 85. Save the file.

You could also change this in the OptionDefault.dat if you are so inclined, so if you do have to load defaults for some reason it won't crash the game. But this isn't strictly necessary.
