First time out of the vault

I know this idea has been mentioned before, but I'd like to mention it again. The World War II one. Except I have one question. Does it have to include a nuclear apocolypes? Cause I was thinking something like this.

The year is 1948. Germany, Japan/China, and Italy rule the world. The entire Asian continent from the eastern coast to the Caspian sea, all of South America, and most of North America (as far north as the city of Inuvik in Northern Canada) is controlled by the Japanese and Chinese Alliance. The Germans control Russia as far east as the Verkhoyansk mountain range, and all of Europe, excluding Italy, Switzerland, and northern Scotland. Italy itself controls all of Africa and the middle east.

The Allies control Northern Scotland, the Heberdies, Orkneys, and all of the islands off the north coast of Asia. Allied HQ is in Alert, on Ellesmere Island, one of the islands of the north coast of Canada. The Japanese and American/Canadian front streches from Anchorage, to Dawson, to Inuvik. The American/Canadian combined Navy is managing to hold off the constant invasion attempts into the Yukon Isles. The British are preparing to evac Scotland, and transport them to the Artic, where they will subsequently be transported to Greenland.

There was no Manhatten project. There is no atomic bomb. There are, however, V12's. They are capable of firing on targets within foot accuracy that are 300 miles away. The Allies have precious few of these, mostly ones captured from transport ships on their way from Ireland to Nova Scotia. The Germans and Italians, however, mass produce them, and have huges fields containing them. Cambridge Bay is under constant attck from these rockets, the sirens that signal they're return echoing through the deserted streets, as the entire city had basically moved underground. Its nickname was even "Tunnelville".

I'm going to in depth.
Anywho, yeah.

I'm going to give a tenative "Not necessarily" for the nuclear apocalypse necessity. Which is a pretty pussyfoot way to deal with the issue (I'd make a damn good politician).

In any case, since this is a Fallout forum, the setting dictates that the roleplaying board would naturally be Fallout-based or at least entail a post-apocalyptical premise.

However, I personally find WW2 to be pretty close to the same post-apocalyptical vibe, what with the bombed-to-ruins European cities as a back drop. So I don't see any issue over it being used. It's not like your asking for elves and swords and sorcery.

What say the other moderators?

Heres one possible idea for how to handle a FO themed WW2 RP.........

Have the point where FO becomes AU be in WW2 lasting a lot longer, and the manhattin project never bearing fruit. Have the characthers be sent back in time via an experimental time machine just before the nuculear exchange that results in the wasteland.
Only one of the characthers (the leader, and I would assume, GM, has power armor) the rest would just have combat armor.
Have the weapons be modern, but use WW2 calibers (.303 .45 etc etc) but with the weapon itself using FO modern innovations (sights, HUD's linked to the rifles scope, and such)

The mission is to simply assist the invasion of Germany (which wont surrender, and is allied with Russia, who they never attacked, thus causing the vast anti commie feelings that caused america to keep the style of american industry so stagnant that at the time the nukes flew, they had the style of the 50s still)

Have the team come down behind enemy lines on the night before D-Day (loosing the guy carrying all the historical war records, when the time machine malfunctions and incinerates most of the team), baasicly they link up with a group of the 101st and do the Dday stuff like it was in history (but with fewer casulties) then they fight thru the lines and get assigned to the supreme allied commander, Patton. Since the survivors arnt that well educated in history, they get used as commandos, though certain historical points are changed (they warn patton about market garden, and he uses it to frame Gen Montgomery for treason and have his rival shot)

No offense, but instead of trying to decifer your nebulous idea, I'm going to give you my own plot to critique.

The role play starts when, after being chosen for a Spec. Ops parachute mission into deep enemy territory, the soldiers hit the ground, about 40 miles away from Echo Bay, a V12 launching site for the Japan/China alliance. The mission is to find out what all the radio traffic going between J/C, Kraut, and Italian heads is all about. The most that the allies have decifered is "Svalbard Projekt", substitute the k for a c and you have your translation. "Baia Di Eco" is often used as well. While the British Royal Marines investigate the former, the squads job is to find out what the connection is with Echo Bay. The squad starts making their way towards the military base. Take it from there.

Sidenote, women charries will be allowed, because of the shotage of men to draft, they have resorted to letting willing women join the army.

I will reveal the connection as the Role Play progresses, so dont try and take it off in a new direction.

If your having troble visualizing how this all is, then use this.

The Verhoyansk mountian range is just after the city of Verhoyansk.

Sounds reminiscent of what the British Special Operations Executive had to deal with during WW2. Since nobody's vetoing the WW2 setting, I say go for it.

Start up an Out of Character (OOC) thread with your RPG title (I dunno if "Rethinking WW2" is the title) for out of plot discussion and an In Character (IC) thread for actual storytelling.

I recommend that you entail more description of what characters are possible in the OOC thread. You know, so players know whether to make career-soldier characters or cloak-and-daggers intelligence characters. An OOC thread is also good to start recruitment and plan out stories.

In any case, good luck with your RPG, Destroyer.
