OK if riddick is alive and in the exit grid when you leave. when do you get to recruit him? and is there any way to get out of pitch black without running?

Riddick will show up later, when your character is at a level that you can recruit him. For me it took awhile to get Riddick and by the time I could, I didn't want him.

As for getting through Near Dark, you can shoot your way out, even at a fairly early level. If you decide on this option, hopefully you have enough people with pump and double barrel shotguns. Form a phalanx and let the deathclaws get close. You don't need t see the deathclaws to hit them, just fire in the right direction. Save the double barrels for the ones that get close and the pumps to thin them out after the doubles do their thing. Save a few points for hasty retreats of wounded party members. Ideally the deathclaws will hit your group in ones and twos, maybe even threes and only from 1 or 2 directions. Keep the group tight to minimize damage to particular players.

This can be a lot of fun.
Don't do this in CTB

Sorry Plastic- But I don't really recall. I did Pitch Black fairly early (the only real firepower of my group was shotguns at the time) Riddick didn't show up until later- I think at the end of the Beast Lords.

This depends on your rank and charisma. The better your rank the quicker you can recruit good players. Mine was quite high so I recruit early.

Recruiting Riddick probably depends more on what kind of campaign you are playing. If your guys are heavy melee than he's probably a good pick. My group is a mix of heavy weapons and energy/small arms, so he's not much use. All my people are good enough scouts that he didn't add much to the mix. You might want to try to recruit a few Deathclaws as well. If I play again I will probably go with a smaller group (4 characters) while experimenting with melee fighters. .

Yeah I've got him now, and he's pretty excellent. I only use a group of 4 and I have it on tough guy. Beleive or not in a way this actually makes the game much easier. I just got to bunker Delta and I"m lv. 16 or 17 something like that, due to the double xp. For some reason Riddick rarely gets hit. I had two other char. standing next to him fighting mutants. And he stood there for quite some time not getting hit ; then I move up another char. and he gets worked. It wasn't just that one either every other char. got hit HARD, but riddick is somehow luckier than they are.

Next time I play I am going to go with four characters and try it out. Are you sure that the reason Riddick wasn't getting hit was because of the strange burst effect? It seems that when you get hit with a burst weapon like a machinegun, everything around the target gets hit, but the target often comes out fairly unscratched.
