Rise of Legends

so is Rise of Legends to Rise of Nations what Total Annihilation: Kingdoms is to Total Annihilation? The graphics look nice... I'll have to browse through it some more.

and so the story which got us excited is one where the magic of fantasy meets a world of technology. So magic and technology collide, with cataclysmic results!

So... it's basically Arcanum style world? Sounds neat, I'm interested :).

No that's civilization :). But nah seriously, Rise of Nations isn't the only game that's had that problem. It's just hard to balance different ages I guess.

Well, if tanks were outfitted with tin metal plates and pikes had diamond tips, I suppose it could happen.

Uh...all it takes is a well-placed pike head and a tank is immobile, depending on the tank. Hell, with a few tank models, you could even de-tread a tank with a pike.

Even if the tanks had side-mounted machine guns, the pikemen could be able to flank and take apart a tank or even group of tanks, as tanks are nearly useless in short-range combat against multiple human targets, especially when the tanks are traveling together in a group. They are built for going against hardened bunkers and other vehicles. The pikemen would take losses, certainly, but tanks are far from invulnerable.

After the tanks lose mobility, all they are is sitting armor and guns, and then it becomes a matter of an any colony tearing apart a crab.

Imagine a tank crew going "OH NOES ITS A KID WITH A HUGE FUCKING TROUT"

Just watched some screenies of this game. At least it looks snazzy.

Edit: I just realized that the goddamn fish is a pike. You sir, win the award of most obscure joke of the month

Uhhh, Dude it was the first Abyssinian war that they whooped Italy's ass. As they were conquered in WW2 and were not liberated till 1941 by the Brits. Here are the stats of the decisive battle in the first war.

Battle of Adowa
Conflict First Italo-Abyssinian War
Date March 1, 1896
Place Adowa, Ethiopia
Result decisive Ethiopian victory; end of First Italo-Abyssinian war
Combatants
Ethiopia____________________________Kingdom of Italy
________________Commanders_____________________
Ras Makonnen_______________________Oreste Baratieri
___________________Strength______________________
about 120,000; artillery,_______________14,527 men, 56 guns
machine guns, cavalry;
20,000 were armed only with spears

___________________Casualties_____________________
10,000________________________________11,000

One side note; The Ethopians carried black umbrellas in the battle because they were fighting fellow Christians instead of Muslims.

This is presented in the spirit of accuracy.

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic. :D

Get back on topic!

So, is this game going to run on a laptop with NO hardware T/L?

Just think.A platoon of tanks setup,and ready.Open field.Then a formation of pikemen charge the tanks.....and win.Maybe 1 or 2 casaulties.

This seems wrong?

Im pretty sure canon blasts at tight formations tend to kill, disable, main, whatever a few dozen men at once and running into MG fire....well polish calvary tried that........
