S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1.0003 patch and soundtrack

Tannhauser

Venerable Relic of the Wastes
Orderite
GSC Game World has released their second English patch, version 1.0003, for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The patch addresses over thirty issues and crashes in both the single and multiplayer game, but apparently does not address performance. A few examples of notable things that have been fixed:
*Fixed the bug with NPCs spawning in front of the player.
*Fixed the A-life reaction time. Now A-life spawns new NPCs more seldom. Also NPC movement speed is decreased when NPC are on different level then the player.
*Fixed aspect ratio 16/9. Now the owners of the widescreen displays will have the benefit from greater viewing radius.

The patch comes in three versions, one for the U.S. release, another for the download distribution version, and the last for all other releases. Save games from the patch 1.0001 version of the game are compatible with this patch.

The developers have also put up a fourteen track selection of music from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on the official website.

Is the soundtrack worth the trouble of download ?

I've only gotten up to track 3, and that particular track is very similar to some of the Fallout 1 & 2 tracks. I really like it. Tracks 1 and 2 aren't all that great.

I demand performance fixes! theres no reason why Half life 2 should be able to run fine on my pc and not stalker!!!! argh!

Damm, I was hoping for performance fixes, I actually stopped playing Stalker for days, waiting for the patch to come, cuzz its just too annoying playing it like this right now.

finally....

and they shall finish the other promised features in the next patch as well and release this one sooner

4 patches in 1 year would be poor

Actually there is no other game out right now has a lighting engine that is even close to STALKER's.

If you run it in Static Lightning it performs just as good as Half Life 2 for me.

Running STALKER in static lighting mode makes it looks just like Quake 3 engine with minor lightmap improvement. It's not pretty but playable. And damn fun. 8)

Ditto, getting these patches from them is like pulling teeth

so i got trough the soundtrack now. well, i was counting on somethng more ... melodic

but of course its out of game context. i didnt play stalker but i guess that music adds alot to the scary climate :look:

this helped me

Originally the game ran horrible for me on any mode other than static lighting, but there is a shader mod (http://www.thefloatingpoint.org/main/download.php?list.4) that really helps- I'm using the May 10th release, apparently the May 13th is buggy. Also, it seems like the game configures the user.ltx settings for r2 lights (that's object and full dynamic lighting mode) in such a way that brings any system to its knees. I used the suggested settings from this thread (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/860003693831/p/8) - minus the AA ones - and it let me go from ~11fps in full dynamic to about 25fps. For me, that was the difference between playable and unplayable.

Just for the record, I've got a modest rig, 2gb of regular ddr ram, a x800 xt and 2.5ghz amd. I hope anyone having problems running it is helped by those links. I like the game for what it is, I just got done with Yantar and am having a blast, but don't expect a RPG experience out of it.
