Save Game Problem, Oddity

First time out of the vault
An interesting problem with my savegames that occured whilst I was editing the audio files in the music folder. My savegames disappeared!

What's even more odd is that they, in fact, REAPPEARED in the load screen after I started a new game, saved, and continued editing the audio files, then returned to the game to test the files

Not only that, but the new saves that I made are still in the user folder, but the game is still somehow reading the old saves. The same thing happens when I use Brotherhood of Steel Character Editor. I suspect that the saves that the game and the character editor are accesssing are buried in the folder somewhere.

A few things to note:

I can't seem to access the new saves

The old saves work when I load them

I backed up the new saves, but since the game doesn't appear to be using the "user" folder, it probably wouldn't do me any good to try and mess with it.

Anyone know where these old saves are?
It's kind of annoying me at the moment.

A path for modding?

I don't think I'm creating a mod or anything, I'm just playing the regular single player game

You've been editing the game, so I wondered if you'd set up a custom directory, as suggested in the editor readme. In which case you'd have two user/save folders, when running the game using the path command you'd see saves in the default directory but would save to the custom path. When running the default game, for example from the cd autorun, you'd then only see the saves in the default directory and not the 'modded' saves.

Unfortunately for me, I don't recall creating a custom directory. All I can remember doing is backing up the "music" folder by copying and pasting it to another portion of my HD, then overwriting all the mp3's in the "music" folder with all the new ones that I wanted to use.

I can't seem to find any other "user/save" folders, either.
The game seems to be working fine right now, but I really have no idea what the real trigger was that initiated this problem. It's more an annoyance than anything else, though.

I've tried running the game from both the cd autorun and from BOS.exe. Both of them seem to have the same result.

Update: It happened again. No trigger whatsoever. I was just playing the game normally, then when I went to load my game, the only savegames available were from hours before.
I wonder if it's my operating system? I use Vista. I still can't explain what's happening. It's as if the game gets saved to a secret folder somewhere, then the old data suddenly gets superimposed over the data randomly.

If you've installed to program files in vista your saves will be in a virtual directory http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=504471#504471. If you start one session with a different permission level, i.e. as an administrator you won't see those saves and will be saving in the default folders.

Either reinstall FOT (and other old games) to a different folder like C:\Games, disable uac (not recommended), or make sure you start the game in the same way each time. Some games if you run the autoexec from the disc or use a loader program will require permission i.e. running as administrator while a shortcut pointing to the game exe won't.
