Savegames under Vista

Lord Aries

First time out of the vault
Hi, this is my first post here, and I just want to say that I'm trying to follow the guidlines... I searched for my answer using the search function, and if its there, its buried pretty deep.

My problem is simple, and I'm sure pretty dumb to have to ask, but if you can help I'd appreciate it.

I started playing FO2 again, and I'm loving it. I just got a brand new BAD ASS laptop today... I don't want to have to start all over again to play it on this new laptop (my wife is taking the old one, and will be soon scrubbing it clean)

IS THERE ANY WAY to transfer my save game files? I looked in the directory where I had the game installed and saw nothing even close to a save game file or folder... I went ahead and copied all the files there and pasted it into the directory in my new computer where the game was installed and choose to replace the old files, thinking that if they were in there, that would get them.

I have the F2 restoration project 1.2 installed as well as the game on both machines.... if that helps any.

Look guys, I hope I'm asking in the right place, and I hope someone can help... My wife is killing me right now, cause she wants to take my old laptop... so please respond soon if you can.

Re: Need help fast

Save games are in your Fallout2/data/SAVEGAME directory. Just copy that directory to the same place on your new computer.

If your running Windows Vista I think save games are placed in another location. I don't remember where though.

I am running vista.... Thanks for the response... but I know they aren't where I've looked.
Okay, I remember someone posting information about Vista and saves.

When running Vista, your saves are often placed here instead of the usual location where you installed the game.

C:\Users\"yourusername"\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2

thanks, I was just coming to tell you I found it, and I appreciate your help.

BTW- Thanks for this cool website and forum, whoever is in charge.

Glad you found it.

Was it in the AppData\Local\VirtualStore\...... like I mentioned?

UGGH... I looked and there is NO file there... I went to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2

There is no folder called appdata for me to go into... I'm going to continue to look.

You probably have to enable hidden folders in Windows. Vista has changed everything but look in the vicinity of tools/folder options

I edited the thread title for clarity's sake, please use descriptive thread titles.

Someone may want to take what we've learned here and make it into a sticky or tutorial thread. Vista is a nasty little monster to deal with, and having this info might help someone else.
