Screen turning black (graphics problem)

First time out of the vault
Ok, this is a new one on me... Every couple of minutes while playing (FO1) the sreen will just turn black. I can make it 'reappear' by moving the mouse around or switching screens, but it is VERY annoying...

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix?

I'm running on a Dell Inspiron 8600, Nvidea GF 4 (dell mobile), and OS is XP home.

This didn't happen the last time I was playing (not using a laptop :? )
 
That happened to me once, with a GeForce FX. The thing is i cleared the black portion totally with my mouse and it stoped, don`t know if you have tried it.
 
i've had the exact same thing happen to me in fallout 2. i'd be playing for a while, and all of a sudden, the screen goes black, and just like you said, moving the mouse, or exiting the screen (scrolling too) bring the screen back up. im running it on win2k with an ati radeon 7500, so as far as i can tell, your video card wont make much difference. i believe it has a lot to do with how 2k and xp handle a lot of the older coding in game engines. it shouldnt be happening too often, but if it is, try the different installs, and make sure you have the most up to date patches for fallout and your hardware.
 
I've had that once or twice, mainly in FO2, and certainly a lot in the mapper. I'm a poor bastard with only a Riva TNT2 under 98SE so it's not limited to XP. Not much you can do but wiggle your mouse around as Briosafreak said.
 
If you dont have time to move the mouse around the screen, just enter the your Pip-boy, exit the Pip-boy and shobidibob! problem solved.
