Second screen?

Right. I have an archaic Fujitsu e150f LCD, predating this millenium, with a read dead pixel in the middle of the screen. It does it's job though, and I like it. But since my graphics card has dual screen compatibility, and it's cool to have two screens when editing pictures and 3D-modeling and such, I'm thinking of getting a second one.

Now, my roommate wants to sell me his 2 years old Samsung 913N with 8 ms response time for about $230, which I think is a little steep. So I suggested $150, but he's not very enthusiastic.

I'm checking new screens now, and I don't really need bigger than 19", definitely not widescreen, and as long as the response time is below 8 ms, it's ok, as I won't really use it for gaming (limited by my 6 year old PC). Pivot foot is absolutely unnecessary, as it usually adds a lot to the price. Suggestions?

the Samsung 913N is like 3 years old now...

it was a good monitor in its day, but 230$ is waaaay too much. i'd probably not even spend $150 on it. you're better off with a new screen in the 200$ range.

I haven't been able to find any 19" in the $200 range though. And most screens seems to be 16:10 or 16:9 nowadays.

You DON'T like widescreen?
Weird, I love it to death. So much more natural for the human range of vision.

Honestly, check out craigslist and ebay.
And if that fails, newspapers often have ads for people trying to resale their pcs, check out the nickel ads or something similar.

I don't see the point of widescreen unless it's for watching movies, for which I use a widescreen HD projector anyway. 4:3 is better for computer-related stuff.

Well I always have my iceweasel maximized with f11, with a sidebar constantly open watching rss feeds for tech and news, digg, security stuff, comics, etc, so with widescreen i end up seeing the actual website display roughly at 4:3 after you factor out the sidebar :P

And in programs like FL studio and photoshop, it allows me more space wot work with on a single screen, since i want my work area/pallete typically at a 1:1 ratio, and my toolbars take up a lot of my screen width

plus, then you can take that annoying start bar and put it on the side to give yourself more vertical retail (I use litestep for this)

You could just hold out for an OLED display, yeah?

That is a hot piece of hardware right there.
1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 1080p HD, 27" Widescreen, >100% NTSC color reproduction, and the actual tv is less than an inch thick.

Just recently a research department managed to reproduce OLED displays on clear pieces of glass.

As in... windows with tvs in them.

Just wait, soon your living room window will also be your living room tv.

You DON'T like widescreen?

I find it terribly annoying.
What you gain in width you lose in height.
Plus, games with no support for wide-screen get stretched.

Then again, I don't like LCDs at all.
