Secret or was this hole thing just random?

Frank Horrigan@BIS

Still Mildly Glowing
Hey

I thought I finally had found a way to equip the robo rocket launcher.

First of all I used the Fallout 2 Map Editor to located the robots which do have these weapons from start in their inventory. It was the one in toxic caves and the ones on the Enclave.

I started the unpatched version and went to the Toxic Caves with my falche edited character. Once I got down to the bot I shoot it once with a Desert Eagle and it "exploded" (I had the perk Better Criticals and the trait Bloody Mess).

Now, I located the destroyed bots exact location, shoot Vic once in the head and with the help of his body I could also loot the body of the bot and receive the robo rocket launcher with some robo rockets (18)!

Now, of cause did I tried it on the Enclave afterward...without success...and afterward I tried it in the Toxic Caves again and again and again...with no success those times either.

Was the hole damn thing just random or what?

I thought that whenever you kill a critter that's not lootable, its inventory is automatically purged by the engine, sort of like a failsafe. This happens when you kill the deathclaws with Claws, for instance, or fire geckos with firebreath. The Claw only remains if you do the electro-kill, presumably because that dumps the inventory on the ground before the normal purging can take place. So my guess is your first experience was the anomaly, but it's interesting that you could do it at all. You weren't on drugs at the time, were you?

Perhaps this is an offshot of the bug that allowed one to get Frank Horrigan's weapons from his non-lootable body? The location must be exactly the same hex for this one too

The character or the player? ;)

The way I see it now, is that the game removes the items you really aren't supposed to get (for example the robo launcher) as I was able to loot two of the robots on the Enclave for their avenger miniguns and ammo. In my case I guess that I encountered a rare glitch were the game fails/forgets to remove the robo launcher (from the robot). The instant destruction of the robot, might be responsible for not letting the game to react in time.

Yes, but strangely it doesn't occur when you "explosive-kill" something, as it should have had the same effect. A miss by the producers it seems to be.

You know, when you had your first jet you can't get enough...only in rare cases when you should...endure...uhhh :D

Hah! Did it again, but this time on a Fire Gecko in the toxic waste up encounter. Scored once again an instant death kill, which now most likely seems responsible to prevent the game from removing the items.
