In Fallout 2 the "Chosen One" was revealed by the president of the united states of the horrific truth about the Vaults.

He was told that the vaults were actually a sociological expiriment, and deliberately none of them worked properly, generally forcing the residents out of the vaults earlier than they would be able to survive out of the Vaults...

The only exception however was Vault 13, whose purpose was to house people from the radiation for a long time...

I mean, I'm sure people could have figured out about the vaults too if they all failed except for one...

Then suddenly in FOT you are told that the Vaults were there for the survival of humanity, and that there was an even greater vault with more supplies...

I mean
hellO
the vaults are just a damn illusion

so Fallout Tactics is based on an Illusion?

So I don't own Fallout Tactics!?

I THINK INTERPLAY OWES US OUR MONEY BACK!

Only the government knew about the experiment, otherwise it wouldn't have worked. The purpose of a sociological experiment would obviously be testing human behavior(or something to that effect), and the subjects would behave differently if they knew it was a test(they would probably object), so when the brotherhood tells you that the vaults were for survival, that's because they believe it to be true.

Also, vault 13 WAS part of the test; they got a disfunctional waterchip.

No, Vault13's waterchip malfunction was an accident. Talk to the President in Fallout 2, he even says the Vault 13 waterchip failure was a "fortunate accident". Vault13 was supposed to stay sealed "forever".

The Overseer send the Vault Dweller out because it was either that, or let everyone die. He violated the "stay sealed" order. That's also why he didn't let the Vault Dweller back in the vault, to keep others from leaving. He was following orders to the best of his ability given the situation.

I have a question: if the vaults were an experiment, who was tabulating the results & from where? Another vault? That theory doesn't hold water.

I thought that that form of "government" was put together after the war started.

According to the president, they're the remnants of the US Government.

It's been so long since I've played it, I've forgotten most of the details.

I always thought Valut 13 had simply become agorophobic - life was nice and cooshy in the vault after all.
