setup.exe won't launch

First time out of the vault
Lo all,

Basically as topic title, I can click on 'install Fallout Tactics' in the autorun menu or open the CD contents and click on setup.exe there but the result is always the same - there's a brief hourglass symbol of activity then nothing ( no black screen, no lockup, it's just as though I hadn't clicked at all ).

I'm using an original copy of the game and recently cleaned the disc ( even though there were few scratches to speak of ), have tried running the setup.exe in 'compatability' mode in desperation but that had no impact, no idea what to do next.

My specs are Athlon 3500+, 1GIG Ram, and a 6800GT graphics card, any help much appreciated.

Just tried disabling my virus checker, firewall, and other programs. Doing so had no effect, but I did notice something interesting, in the 'processes' tab were about nine setup.exe programs running, all stacked up, so there is *something* trying to happen.

How would I be sure if the files on my discs weren't corrupted, is there a specific tool or program to use?

Explorer? Just check that none of the files, especially the data cab files are 0 bytes.

Did you restart your machine, disable the background programs and then retry?

Thanks, got it working now. A simple reboot into Safe Mode allowed it to go through, probably never know what caused the problem but isn't that always the way!
