Sfall and big scenery

brother_soifran

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Gronichonha all !
I 'm putting on my game some big scenery and notice that some parts desapear when i move my cursor on it...
after fews seconds the whole big scenery re-appear...
So I check Ddraw.ini and found a command:

;Set to 1 to override the art_chache_size setting in fallout2.cfg
OverrideArtCacheSize=0

So I put 1 in the place of zero and open fallout2.cfg and change ArtCacheSize.
I put 4096.
But nothing change...
Does this command serve to correct this bug or not?
If not, Is it possible to fix this bug?
It 'll allow to save some place in the total number of the scenery possible limited I believe to 4096...
So since someone haven't broke this sound wall...
It would be I think a good alternative.
Thanks

1) Contie knows this crappy problem well, IIRC. Contact him.

2) Got my PM's, dear брат?

As some of you probably noticed maximum dimension of FRM isn't related to the dimension of bitmap itself, but to the orientation to blocking hex. As shown below even large FRM which is centered around blocking hex will be displayed correctly, but if you'll move that bitmap away from blocking hex engine will cut it after you'll put into the map (extremely large bitmap/far away from blocking hex) or display problems will occur (disappearing on the mouse's scroll/move for example).

I think there's some kind of hardcoded rectangle (marked in red), orientated to one point, which is responsible for it. Now, I wonder what is the exact dimension and orientation to that one point... :ugly:

Ok thanks, I 've repositionated the 1st floor of the Barn and it works fine.
Bu t now...
:)
I encounter some troubleshooting with .. overlapping with some walls.
CP said that it can be set up.
Any idea?
Thanks

It may be caused by much higher Width of your walls than default ones, but without screenshots it's not possible to say for sure.

Hello Continuum, here is too pic of my 1st floor .
The first show the full floor, without problem of desapearing corner.

The last one when I put the same scenery near the barn's walls.

thanks

edit: For information, I've put the Floor in the middle of the red hexe under Frameanimator.

That floor is simply too large. Split it into the pieces. Problems with overlapping will always occur if you'll try to put such large FRM in close proximity to walls or other scenery.

The other way to solve this particular problem would be to set "back" (EW) and "right" (NS) direction to Flat. But by doing this you'll be forced to block everything behind it to prevent critters from getting there. And of course you can't put any scenery "behind" Flat walls since they'll overlap them.

This looks like the walls left and right are over the image. So either you cut the walls different or you need to cut the floor different. You can choose what will make less work. :>

/Edit: One minute too slow. Noooo.
