Well, there might be progress if you develop your parenting techniques with each child.

Ashmo 2.0 -Killing spree after going mad because of parental hatred, in prison.
Ashmo 2.1 -Stuck forever as a McDonald's manager due to lack of ambition.
Ashmo 2.2 -Moderately successful white-collar programmer.
Ashmo 2.3 -Millionaire software mogul.
 
Considering that the most likely reproduction mechanism I will eventually use is programming an android, the versioning system even makes sense.
