Well I am new to Fallout 2 modding and very ignorant about the game's engine and whatnot. I wanted to make an animated gif from the animation where a mutant scratches his ass and then smells his hand. Can anyone help me achieve my little deviant idea?
 
Ok, the image turned out to be MAMTNTAA.frm. Now I downloaded frm2gif, frmcon and frmcat, however I can't get any of them to give me a gif of the whole animation (frm2gif doesn't work because it says I don't have a palette). I am very newbish in regards of animated gifs also. Any pointers you can give me? The MAMTNTAA.frm one was right on target, wild qwerty. Thank you.
 
I DLd FRM to GIF and when I run it, a DOS box opens breifly then closes but nothing else happens.
 
That means that the program uses a command line interface (which I HATE by the way). You have to use command prompt to get any use of it.

Yes. If you are using Win98, just fire up the MS DOS Shell, in WinXP and Win2k there should be DOS emulators (or whatever they are).

Note that this requires you to use dangerous and exciting commands like cd (change directory) and dir (look up content of the present directory). Yay.

It's easier than it sounds tho. And if that freaks you out, don't go anywhere near Linux or Unix.

Actually a GUI is seen as cruft by hackers, especially if the purpose of the program is simple and adding a GUI would use ten times the memory and disk space a CLI would require.
There's a thin line between "cheap" and "efficient" and this tool is on the other side of it.

Hehe. Yupp. Real hackers only need a keyboard. Also, real hackers use the BASh, not DOS.
 
Ok, I finally got frm2gif to work and a palette from Photoshop but the results were pathetic.

Anybody know how to get the proper palette from the game?
 
Go search the DL section of the site.

I use frame animatior, extract the FRM to .bmp files, then crop as you want, and make a .gif with it, I recomend about a 100ms delay.
 
Woo hoo! Thanks [3PD]PsychoSniper, the color pallete included in frmworkshop is just what I needed. I'll try your method though, its better to know how to do this shit manually.

Ok, how do I get the gif to loop? It only shows the animation once.
 
Just download Ulead Gif animator (do a google search for it) and open the gif and edit it to loop, I think.

BTW: Command line tools are great! I was weaned on DOS 6.22, all the good games would only work in DOS :)

Besides Spr2Frm is a command line batch file I made out of Spr2Gif, Gif2Frm, and FrmCat. If they were GUIs and didnt support command line there would be no way I could batch them al together so that they it would process a few hundred files automaticaly

Though of course some one could always get the source code for them and recompile it all into one program and put a GUI on it. Heck I'd even give them the process for running it all together
