Simplifying My Build List

DwayneGAnd

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
I have a total of thirty-nine builds planned for this game. They are all in three categories:

Critical - focuses on increasing critical chance and damage as much as it can get. Weapons with high damage per shot, critical damage, and critical modifiers of greater than 1 work best.

Quickshot - focuses on increasing attack speed as high as possible, though criticals are included. Weapons with fast attack speed work best.

All Out - focuses on increasing damage. Does not use critical hits due to low critical modifiers of less than 1 and low critical damage, or inability to deal critical hits and damage. Automatics work best.

The builds are sorted as follows:

Critical: Cowboy, Grunt, Shotguns, Guns, Laser, Plasma, Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Pyromaniac Melee Weapons, Pyromaniac Unarmed

Quickshot: Cowboy, Grunt, Shotguns, Guns, Laser, Plasma, Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Pyromaniac Melee Weapons, Pyromaniac Unarmed, Explosives

All Out: Grunt, Guns, Laser, Plasma, Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Pyromaniac, Explosives

For the final level-up, one of the level 50 perks is taken.

Critical - Just Lucky I'm Alive

Quickshot - Ain't Like That Now

All Out - Thought You Died

However, recently I've been thinking that certain builds are better with one more than the others. In the past, I did some calculations and concluded that Thought You Died doesn't have as much impact on damage as the other two if you use single-shot weapons. Since increased attack speed from Ain't Like That Now has no effect on automatics and most of them tend to deal low critical damage, they are best with Thought You Died. Semi-automatic weapons and others with several attacks per second gain more results from Ain't Like That Now than single-shot weapons such as pistols, revolvers, and sniper rifles. Slower-firing weapons tend to deal more critical damage, so they would work best with Just Lucky I'm Alive.

In fact, the only difference between the critical and quickshot build, aside from the weapons, is the level 50 perk taken, resulting in higher critical damage or faster attack speed. Critical builds could use Rushing Water for more attack speed. All builds focusing on critical damage or fast attack speed have the same SPECIAL and traits using both Built To Destroy and Fast Shot if ranged, or just Built To Destroy if hand-to-hand. Fast Shot increases attack speed. Slayer increases all hand-to-hand speed. But I would think that certain level 50 perks are better overall for certain combat builds than others in terms of damage and performance.

So I think I need to simplify the number of builds I have and cut out the builds that wouldn't be as powerful. I need to know which builds to keep and which to cut. For the critical and quickshot builds planned, obviously, there has to be one level 50 perk that is better than the other for it. I would appreciate some help.

Cowboy
- Weapons affected by the Cowboy perk, whether ranged or melee, have slower attack speed than those affected by Grunt, but they all deal higher amounts of damage per attack and critical damage. Blood Nap has the fastest attack speed of all weapons affected by Cowboy, but still deals good damage and critical damage, even if not as high as those in the Guns category. Would a Cowboy build using guns or melee weapons be better off using JLIA instead of ALTN?
- If the Lever-action Shotgun still deals less damage than a Hunting Shotgun, Dinner Bell, or the Riot Shotgun even with the increased damage perks aside from TYD, is a build using this weapon even work making? If so, which is better, JLIA or ALTN?

Grunt
-Weapons affected by the Grunt perk, whether ranged or melee, attack faster than those affected by Cowboy, but deal less damage per shot and critical damage. Would ALTN be better for them than JLIA?

Guns
-The fastest-firing pistols and rifles in the Guns category are all affected by Grunt. With this in mind, is there a point to making a build using ALTN with non-Grunt weapons with fast attack speed and more damage such as This Machine, Li'l Devil, and Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle if they all have lower DPS than the Grunt weapons even without Grunt?
- If shotguns deal low critical damage per projectile if using buckshot, would they be better off using ALTN instead of JLIA?
- The Bozar inflicts more damage per shot and has higher critical damage than the CZ57 Minigun. Which weapon is better for a Light Touch critical build using automatics?

Laser
- Laser Commander increases critical chance by a flat amount, resulting in a higher critical chance. However, only a few laser weapons inflict good critical damage, such as Pew-Pew. The highest critical damage weapons in the Energy Weapons category aren't even affected by Laser Commander or classified as Plasma. Certain laser weapons that are non-automatic also fire several shots per second. With this in mind, which is better for Laser builds, critical damage or increased attack speed?
- The Sprtel-Wood 9700 has slighter higher critical damage and critical chance than the Gatling Laser. Even if the modded Gatling Laser inflicts more DPS with a fully upgraded ED-E, which is the better weapon for a Light Touch critical build?

Plasma
- Plasma weapons deal overall higher damage per shot and critical damage than laser weapons but have slightly slower attack speed than laser weapons. Would they be better for a critical damage build than a faster attack speed one?

Melee Weapons
- Blunt melee weapons deal higher damage and critical damage. The fastest-bladed weapons are faster than the fastest blunt weapons but don't deal as much damage or critical damage. Is it better to use blunt weapons in a critical build and bladed weapons in an increased attack speed build?
- The automatic-bladed weapons are the strongest, but deal very little critical damage, though I've heard that they have a chance every second out of VATS to inflict a critical hit. Is there still a place for them in a critical build or should they stick to TYD with Heavy Handed?

Unarmed
- The Industrial Hand deals the highest critical damage of any automatic hand-to-hand weapon. Does it still have a place in critical builds or should it stay in a Heavy Handed TYD build?
- Faster Unarmed weapons don't inflict as much damage as the slower ones, even critically. Is Unarmed better for JLIA than ALTN?

Pyromaniac
- The Saturnite fist super-heated inflicts more damage per attack and critically than the Gehenna, but is slower and has a lower critical chance. Would it be better for JLIA than ALTN?
- Gehenna has faster attack speed and higher critical chance, but lower damage and critical damage. Would it be better for ALTN instead of JLIA?

Explosives
- ALTN affects the speed of thrown grenades which can affect DPS while TYD can increase the damage of automatics such as Mercy. Which is better for explosives, ALTN or TYD?

Other
- Some people believe in using the Sonic Emitter Tarantula with Pyromaniac. With slow attack speed, would it be better with JLIA instead of ALTN? Would it even be a viable build to rely solely on this weapon?
- If Energy Weapons neither affected by Laser Commander nor Plasma Spaz have a high critical modifier and inflict both high damage and critical damage, as well as having small magazines, would a build using solely them be more useful with JLIA than ALTN?
-Are critical Light Touch builds using automatics better off using JLIA or TYD if the majority of the automatics deal low damage, aside from the Smitty Special?
