The scripting states that if you initiate combat, it turns certain people on the map hostile, most of the time it's all of them. Certain circumstances (quests mostly) will allow some people on the map to stay neutral, or fight along side of you.

I'm not calling you stupid, I'm just correcting you. I thought the same thing was possible the first time I played, I got kinda lucky, realizing that a sniper character is very effective anyway.
I actually happen to be one of the most lenient people on this board, and don't mind helping a n00b out. You'll see as soon as Rosh comes back online and sees this thread.

Yeah, but you normally don't have the patience to answer them.
And I don't have any mod powers, so I really don't have any choice, but to help someone out, unless it's a ridiculous qeustion. Sometimes I'll even refrain from calling them some sort of boobish like name.
