So I just completed Fallout 2 for the first time...

...and it was actually beautiful.
I felt that this is how you make a sequel.
If these were the only two Fallout games we had got, I would have said it worked nicely as a Two-Part series (I still consider it a Two-Part series while New Vegas serves as a kind of epilogue).
I played it with the Restoration Project Mod, and I just want to say, the people who worked on that deserve a shit load of credit.
I found the Abbey to be one of my favourite Locations in the game, the music, the uneasy feeling, everything was perfect (also, Reno is another favourite of mine).

I can seriously understand how mad people are at Bethesda now, I thought I could understand before, but now, with a final confrontation we got in Fallout 2 with Frank, we needed something like that.

And even then, the last boss was insanely hard, not because I found him tough, but because the Turrets fucked me up.
The amount of loading I had to do just so I can get the turrets to turn on him... I must have spent hours doing it.

But I think the point I'm trying to make here, is that out of the Interplay/Obsidian games, F2 is my least favourite.
I think F1 is slightly better (if only because I prefer the themes and the Master is my favourite antagonist of all time).

And yet, even the worst true Fallout game still stands out against other games today (heck, even back then it's better than most late 90's games).

I can safely say, after years of being on this forum, I can truly understand why people say this is the go to Fallout game for Role-Playing.

And yet... now we get Vault Tec Workshop ><
Bethesda sucks.

Way to go. Fallout 2 only works best with Restoration Project and not having it now because it's a mod by fans, simply bad excuse. The original feels like a castrato with pieces of story left undeveloped.

The Abbey have music? WHAT?! My last playthrough there's literally no ambient music playing at all!!

I would love to frame my response to this post in the form of Fallout 4's dialogue but none of these responses seem to fit:
[Yes]
[No]
[Maybe]
[Sarcastic]

Let's go with Sarcastic...
"OH YEA? YOU WANNA GO FOR ROUND 2????"

-_-

Never played with the Restoration Project but yeah I agree with you. I had a lot of problems with Fallout 2 but based on what I can tell from this post you felt the exact same way I did when I finished it. The problems with the game feel so irrelevant when you finish it because the ending is so perfect. Fallout 2 is the only Fallout game to this day that ends on a pretty happy note. I got some heavy feels from the slide where they describe the Chosen One's son growing up to take over New Reno and to bring peace to the region, only to have died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 73, never having known his real father. I felt so good about curing jet as well and revealing the conspiracy between Vault City, New Reno and the Raiders was also really satisfying. Judging them on endings alone I'd say: FO2 > FNV > FO1 > FO3 To this day it's still the best ending in the series.
