Hey, I was just wondering when Lynette has you "solve" the gecko problem do I have to fix the plant and go with the proconsul or can I actually kill everyone in Gecko and complete the quest?

Both lead to different outcomes, but both 'fix' the problem.

But there's no reward for killing them, not even becoming a citizen.
