SOMA - Sci-Fi Survival Horror

Deliciously Demented
Do you like good original stories that deal with complex topics?

Do you like sci-fi scenarios where everything has gone to sh*t?

Do you like exploring scary old labs and research stations with unfamiliar horrors?

Do you not necessarily need to kill everything you see but are ok with running and hiding?

Great - then go play SOMA. It's awesome :)

I was thinking about buying it, actually. I never liked dev's previous works too much, because I do love horrors but I'm more oriented towards the survival subgenre, Resident Evil and Silent Hill style, yet after seeing some gameplays and a few settings I started to wonder if this title could possibly be in my chords more than Amnesia and co. The fact is currently on sale on PS Store is giving me another good reason to take it.

Compared to their previous titles I'd say it's at least two steps up in terms of quality, it's actually hard to believe it's the same developer. It's more intelligent than their earlier work, less "cheap scares" and more "feeling isolated and lost" if that makes sense. So I'd say that comparing to their previous titles won't do much good.

Yeah I've got a good vibe about this game, I'm probably gonna buy it really soon. My sci-fi weakness got the best of me once again.

I've played it, and boy was it an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is top notch. It's story and Sci-Fi concepts are just teeming with originality, and best of all it makes you think. It made me think so much that I'm now having a little existential crisis.

I will probably buy the game "soon" but most likely i will get monstrum first. That game looked really good :P

I did a review of it.

tl;dr it's a truly good-great game that's on the level of Spec Ops: The Line. What it suffers from is exactly what SO:TL suffers from - the gameplay. Unfortunately, the gameplay in SO:TL can be rationalised as being part of the message and ideas of the game, even if the developers didn't mean it to be so. SOMA's doesn't do this quite so much. SOMA's horror is the 'true' modern horror - that of the human condition (as opposed to terror games like Amnesia - horror dwells, is observed; terror is direct, immediate). It's not that scary so much as it is reflective. It's also kind of relying on old ideas with a fresh coat of paint but let's face it even the most innovative games released in recent years are still a good 10-20 years behind most other mediums

even more tl;dr basically p fukken good m8 top bants me love

Thank you, though I disagree in retrospect. If you buy anything at full price this year, it should be SOMA.

The story had problems and the ending feels stupid if you put more thoughts into it, but the game is worth the money it asks.

Looks great and the storyline is pretty awesome too. Can't mention anything about it without spoiling it but everyone should check it out.

Played trough it and liked the story aesthetics athmosphere and it was scary at times. Doesnt have much mechanics/gameplay.

I played it. Wasn't really much of a horror game, more of a walking simulator with a somewhat neat sci-fi premise that was done in a more horrifying fashion by the TV show Black Mirror.

Wouldn't play again.
