1. fallout 2 takes place in california, nevada, and what other states?

2. are there any "real" cities in fallout other than san fran and (new) reno?

3. does anyone know of any "wasteland"-songs, that is songs that (frequently) contain the word "wasteland" (or similar)? (for instance; "teenage wasteland" by the who)

None.

Klamath is on the border between California and Oregon though, and it quite nice too! Went up there and took a boat tour across the river Klamath.

Redding is a real city, and so's Modoc.

Can't remember what other cities there were in Fallout 2 but all the ones with real place names exist in real life.

No idea what you're talking about

You know what's funny? The way towns are named in Fallout versus the locations of Fallout Tactics..

For example, Rosh said that Necropolis is Bakersfield, which is true. Compare that to St. Louis in FOT, which is nothing more than a Supermutant camp on a hill.

Pretty much the exact opposite, there. :)

LOL, yeah. I didn't like how they named places in FOT just for the sake of making it a "real" place. Peoria (Preoria) was a bunch of huts with an underground military storage facility, and Kansas City was a church next to an airfield. Love it.

That was a neat thing in Fallout.

They had new city names based upon characteristics or whatever...and when you first play Fallout, seriously, did you know exactly where you were? That was part of the beauty, of sticking your head out aboveground and not knowing where you were and then later having the realization of where.

That's why Fallout STILL holds first with me.

I agree. I just thought it was fairly silly that nearly every location in Fallout Tactics was named after a real city that exists _today_. It's actually another irritating trend that started in Fallout 2 that should have been totally ditched.

I didn't know the Necropolis was Bakersfield until after I played Fallout through a few times. It's actually the FINDING of the details that made the experience "neat". The sense of discovery that linked a location that seemed foreign to something familiar.

That was great, and made a lot of sense. After all, the world's been wiped out. I'm pretty sure that most of the new people that move in to a ruined city aren't going to know the name it had originally.

Yeah, it was only when you visit the LA Boneyard were you able to actually put a real map to the locations in Fallout by knowing where LA was. Fallout 2 had more recognizable places, like Reno and Redding, which do exist (though Redding is in a slightly different location)...
