1up have previewed S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Shadow of Chernobyl and here's a snibblet:
The key to this is a unique life-simulation system that drives every creature in the game. The best example of this comes in the form of the other treasure hunters prowling the badlands. These aren't just traditional scripted A.I. enemies. These stalkers actively compete with you, trying to beat you to the artifacts and technology you pursue, reacting to you based on your previous behavior and reputation, and setting their own objectives with the same degree of freedom that you enjoy. You can approach them as hostiles, or you can cooperate with them and even trade goods, weapons, and equipment. Motivated by greed, cowardice, perceived advantages, and more, and occasionally operating in clans, stalkers will be the deadliest adversaries in the game.
Link: Stalker Preview@1up

This is the game I'm really anticipating. I'm glad about tendency of mixing fps/rpg genres more and more. I hope that this kind of hybrid genre will start to obtein much more independent place in the gaming industry. Also check out Xenus, similar game with setting placed in Columbia. It's a free roaming fps/rpg, but unlike Stalker it also has character developing. Strangely enough both games are developed by two different ukrainian companies.

Telepathy and telekinesis are just some of the tools they'll use to attack you,

Being bashed repeatedly against a wall like a ragdoll by some pig-dog sounds like an interesting experience.

It'd sure be funny to see it happen to another stalker.

have you seen the little movies with anomalies? looks kinda cool.

i'll buy it i think. although i'm not sure i really like that trend of mixing styles. yes FPS games with some good dialogs are fun, but if it's a big succes those lardass developers might start to think real RPGs are "out"...

Yeah, the anomalies are great.
"Oops, I stepped into a wormhole, I suppose I'M GONNA DIE right now AND HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH AGAIN", yeah, I can imagine the fun I'd have.
Then again, considering my computer's hardware and my limited twitch action skillz, I suppose this game isn't for me anyway.
