Star Wars Galaxies?

Demostrike

Still Mildly Glowing
Has anyone got it, what do you think.
I heard you have to pay a monthly subscription for it. Is this true?

I can confirm the monthly subscription. I'm not sure what the price is, but I know it's one of the highest for a MMORPG. I haven't played it though, so I'd like to hear some reviews from NMA'ers as well.

From what I heard, it's the lamest MMORPG out there. You'd be better off with Anarchy Online.

my friend loves it and trys to get me to get it and play it with him... the only thing is.. the game itself is not linear at all. Theres only a few 'real' quests to do, the rest is just fighting (empire vs. rebs) which sounds kind of cool but i can't spend my beer money on that shit.

From what I hear, it's excellent.

Apparently it's not the greatest at first, but if you stick to it for about a week it gets to be a lot of fun.

I believe there is a 10 dollar a month fee...not too bad, I suppose.

From what I've heard (being a member of a Star Wars club and all :P) it is quite good. People from this club have also created their own clan in the game and are already wrecking havoc among the rebels, mwahahaha, long live the Empire!

Personally I am a bit pissed off on how they released the game so early that key gameplay features (vehicles, starships, space travelling/combat) were left out so as to be released as expansion packs. Just your typical Lucasarts selling their soul for more profit, I guess. I haven't tried it out yet, but will probably get it after the "add-ons" are released.

The monthly fee is 15$... I might get it when I get ADSL and when the add-ons are released.. Supposed to be very addictive after what I've heard... I might get World of Warcraft instead of this game though...

I was watching my friend play it a couple of nights ago. Looked fairly interesting. He's the master surveyor for his section of the planet Talus, and did some cool stuff while I was there.

Any other new opinions about the game?

i'm waiting for world of warcraft really

got the beta (test) atm and it already f*cking rocks

cant wait till it's officially released with all the goodies activated

I was hoping for a beta test slot for World of Warcraft, get a chance to extensively try it out. The "7 free days" or "24 hours" isn't really enough to find out if a game is that enjoyable (unless you hate it).

Can you expand on that SuAside? What exactly is so good about World of Warcraft, how is it different than other MMORPGs?

Ozrat, Master Surveyor? What type of gameplay does that entail? What kind of cool stuff?

can't really comment on how it's better than any other MMORPG, since i'm pretty new to the genre.

but i'll give a shot in trying to describe what i like about it (although i'm sure i'll forget to mention half of it because you really don't spend your time online analysing stuff, you spend it having fun)

the first thing that hits you is obvious: the moment you step into the world, it's the warcraft universe... the "special" kind of "comic" graphics, the feel, the background music. everything just breaths warcraft.

you have a pretty big choice in races and classes which are pretty well balanced (if you consider it's just a beta). although the character creation isn't as extensive as other RPGs (less stats). but a system of talents and skills make up for it. (but the system is still being revised atm). some of the talents or skills are pretty humorous.

the quests i've played are pretty neat and original. going from solo quests to group quests. i never got the idea i was hunting for xp instead of trying to solve a quest.

the battle system needs some getting used to but it's easy to learn and with coding some macro's in your console everything goes a lot faster.

i'm sorry i can't really go into detail or make a good argument, but i'm recovering from a pretty fucking bad hangover at the moment :s

The fee per month depends on how many months you pay for at a time. If you pay for 12 mo., it's closer to 10$ a month. If you pay for one at a time, it's closer to 15$ a month.

SWG is good if you play a lot, I think. All MMO's out there right now are basically the same thing, though. SWG isnt bad at all, but, its not the best, either. It all depends on what kind of gameplay you're in to. Even though, like I said, they are all run around, kill things, do quests, get experience or skill points, ect. They all pretty much have their own approach.

SWG doesnt like separating the hardcore gamers from the people who just want to play a little bit, so they did away with the "level" system. It really... Doesnt do much, and I prefer a level system myself. If you play a lot, you should be rewarded, goddamnit. Anyways, you can do tons of stuff in SWG, you dont just have to fight. You can be an entertainer or a crafter if you want.

Shadowbane is probably the best if you like PVP (player versus player). Its a ton of free-pvp and guild-v-guild.

World of Warcraft seems promising... I hope.

If you want to know more about MMORPGs (Ive played nearly all of them), feel free to message me in any way shape or form. :)

Oh man, I can't believe this... I haven't heard people saying nice things about SWG since before they played it!

SWG is a terrible game, totaly full of bugs. Of the many things that I disliked about the game, the one that pissed me off the most was the fact that the game didn't feel the slightest bit like starwars. This shouldn't have been a hard enviroment to nail since the game was set in the most well known "documented" periods of the SW univerise.

If you do buy this game, don't pay for 6 months right off the bat.

Eve online and DAOC are superior to SWG in every way, better to spend your money there.
