Paladin Solo
So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
I've been playing this game for awhile now, and decided to give you a review, so here it is. Enjoy, or not.
Though the game lacks a decent story, and any "real" point to experience it, it presents itself on an epic scale for which it tries to do.
The main point of this game is, well, FUCKING BUGS! Tons of them.
I think the engine the designers used was called Swarm. What it does is make it possible for hundreds upon hundreds of bugs to be on your screen at once. It's actually pretty unique from my viewpoint, as I've never seen something like this before. I found myself on some rock defending outposts against swarms of hard-to-kill, overgrown insectoids bent on galactic domination. Here I am, some kind of ultra-elite trooper, stacked next to the uber, gusto troopers of the day, fighting off onslaught after fucking onslaught to accomplish a mission. The mission? Kill bugs. Like I said, no great story, but really well presented for what the game trys to give you.
The main theme to the game, and more importantly, movie, is "BUGS SIR! MILLIONS OF THEM!"
It really conveys what it's like to be a ritty-gritty trooper in the hay-day of the war between ape and insect.
The AI, although scripted, is also decent. It's refreshing to watch/listen in on their reactions on, and off-duty.
Graphics are of ultra-high quality on highest settings, but are a GIANT machine hog. Even my high-end rig got taxxed heavy for it. But, even on medium or low, it is rather good. If you're a fan of the first movie (not the crappy sequel), you'll absolutely love this game. This is what it means to be a trooper.
I give this game a 8/10. And will further update my favorite gaming list to fit in there somewhere. I recommend picking it up if you're fan, and maybe checking it out either way.
