Yow, what are the best stats to be a sniper.



High at night
Low by day
When i die
Down i'll stay.
 
Im not gonna open up my game and give yhou the stats of my super-duper-top-secret-sniper :) but this might help...

ST6 - thats all you'll need for a gauss rifle

PE8+ - the SharpShooter perk will bring it up by 2

EN6 - thats all you need for Toughness, but more hitpoints is always nice so you might want more.

CH1 - Charisma sucks in multi, dont need it

IN6+ - Bonus Rate of Fire needs 6 but take more if you dont want this guy for small guns only

AG - At the very least 8, because you will get 9 APs and its required for many nice perks

LK - At least 6, since Toughness needs 6 and Sniper rolls against it, so it might be useful to take a Gain Luck perk


Perks: Awareness, Bonus Ranged Damage, Better Criticals, Bonus Rate of Fire, Sniper, Dodger, Tunnel Rat, Bone Head, Loner, Gain Luck, Sharp Shooter, Silent Running, Stone Wall, and Toughness.

Obviously you wont be able to take them all, but theyre all usefull for sniper chars. (Hell, theyre all just useful)

Good Trates are:
Small Frame (you wont be carrying very much anyway)

Fast Shot (this is your own preference, you really shoyuldnt take it in Turn Based, but in CTB you might want to to get those extra shots off)

Bloody Mess (just fun)

Useful Equipment:

Armor: nice cheap leather armor has suited me nicely nice it doesnt take anyhting away from sneak...some psycho will clear up any damage.

Weapon: a Gauss Rifle is good for higher level sniper. For a lower level though, a Sniper Rifle would be better. a pistol as a side arm might be useful incase a pesky DeathClaw danages your main one (its happened alot to me).

Chemicals: Ultra Stims for a higher level, but regular or Super stims are good for lower levels. Dont forget Psycho, and mentats if you want them.

take mines, if they're your cup of tea...or grenades can make a mess sometimes too.


Skills:

Small Guns, of course.

Sneak is a must too since you dont want to be seen until your in just the right place.

The third is oppinion...Traps is good if you like mining. Grenades are OK, but not great. Take Steal if you play in TB (take people's ammo and stims :þ ) But take unarmed or gambling for all i care. :)

Man kamakazi trait rocks! PE of 10 and Sharpshooter are almost a must. AGI of 8 or 10 - getting off two aimed shots a turn makes a huge difference, if you go fast shot it's not as important. LK is good, CH doesn't matter for sniping but if you are playing single player it can be usefull to take more than the minimum. Str of 6, you can get away with less if you are willing to take buffout. EN is nice but you are better off with a lifegiver perk than any ammount of it. And High IN is important to raise that skill, especially so if you go with gifted.

Can't believe you left off sniper perk for snipers (snicker snicker).

That's one ugly sickly sniper but he'll blow off the head of all comers. Perfect candidate for being a ghoul.

ST 2 (serious druggie, two buffouts a mission, also can go with way of fruit to rectify this with 6 cha, but didn't feel I needed to)
EN 3 (started 2 but got gas station encounter)
PE 10

AG 10 (Should have gone with 8 AG I'm wasting 2 on my buffouts when it maxes at 12)

Capable of clearing mission 1 to 12 alone. (yes, alone)

With the exception of deathclaws, which I requre another squad member's assistance, I passed mission 1 to 12 (where I am right now) alone. Period.

Trait : Gifted, Fast shot

Tag : Small, Big, Energy

Stats : 7 10 2 2 10 10 6

Perk : bonus range damage, action boy, sharp shooter, gain luck(out of the blue, don't ask why)

using CTB mode (just because I'm too impatient to wait, and I shoot twice for every one enemy shot anyway)
Normal difficulty (enemy have too much armor in hard diff it's impossible to do anything alone.. and my low charisma limits all my weapon loadout to be what I can salvage and loot off the corpse)

I have been able to take off super mutants by the handful at the maximum range allowed by sniper rifle, where they would not even be able to return fire at 0% or 1% chance, they would just go prone and wait, or charge in and be sweeped out by my M279(works quite good, I can burst 2-3 times before they reach me anyway, depend on my action points at that time) I don't know anyone who can do better, even farsight with sharp shooter can't match my range attack, when I have 90%, she have 30%.

Have fun, this is one char you can't beat.. in term of power.

The Perk "Sniper" requires PE 8, AG 8, 80 % small guns and LV 24. OMG! that's strait out of the manual! I'm still thinking of trying a Bend the Rules at 16th (wait 1 lv after 15 to choose your perk) to get it at 18th though. You'd need 6 LK for that, but the way it reads in the book it wouldn't matter what any other stats are.
