First time out of the vault
Fallout 1 question:
My character only has 4 strength, but I want to be able to use big guns like the minigun and flamer. Will my low strength prevent me from being able to use those (successfully) even if I've trained my character up to 100 in big guns?
I noticed when I use them it says somethign like "You aren't strong enough to use this weapon properly" or somethign like that. Is he doomed to pistols and rifles?

You'll have to find a way to increase your Strength if you want to handle big Guns. There are several opportunities in the game.. ;-)
One is, for example, find yourself a Power Armor...

Oh ok thanks.
I didn't realize there were stat increasing items in game. Hopefully theres enough to get me high enough to use these weapons.

Because my guy is 4 ST right now, and I bet you're right about the 6 ST, so eventually (I don't mind waiting) am I gonna run across an item that brings it up to 6 (+2)?

If not I guess I'd have to edit him with some character editor or something.

[mild spoiler]

only 3 useful things i can think of to boost strength:

power armor
having an operation
& picking a perk which allows you to handle the big weapons better (dont remember its name)

of course like said above there are drugs, but those do more damage than good...

Each "missing" ST gives -20% to hit, so yes, you can compensate by raising your skill.

Actually, you might want to boost them even above 100, so as to compensate for the negative modifier Per highlighted.

I usually go for an initial Strength of 3 or 4 points. Refer to Per's guide for a detailed information about how much ST do you need, but I think 6 will suffice in nearly all cases.

It's 'Weapon Handling'. However, WH doesn't come into play until Fallout 2.

power armor ads +2 if I recall right, then theres Buffout which ads strength.

+3, actually.
