What if you could issure battle commands to your party members? Not the FOT way where you basically play by pretending to be God, I'm talking about a something a little different.

Let's say that using 1 AP you could tell an NPC to attack, run away, change weapons, etc. You would have to make a successful CH roll (or maybe a speech roll) but if you succeeded then the character you were trying to command would do as you say. If you failed however the NPC would be irratated and say something Character Approprate.

Keep in mind that it is waaaay past my bedtime while I write this and I may wake up in the morning and beat my head against a wall for it, but I felt I could throw it out for discussion.

Noooooooooo, it's the stupidest idea I've ever heard!! :D Just kidding! ;-)

Actually it's not a bad idea, but there is some problems with it. The turn based combat system simulates real time, so every turn is something like 10 seconds on the clock(I forgot the real figures). Now, it will probably takes you longer to bark commands than to shoot a gun. There is also the problem of dialogue. I doubt you want to see the dialogue tree during battles, so how exactly would you tell you friends to "You take the left, I'll take the right."? We also may need a new skill for this idea, such as leadership. The ability to coordinate an assult in a way that even Myron will understand it. There is also a slight problem with the consquence. This is turn based, what if the person you yell command to isn't the next in line? If the combat situation changes very suddenly in between, what should he/she do then? Should the person follow the battle protocol you gave him/her before combat, or follow the orders he/she was just given?

Sounds pretty good. Only problem is that realistically speaking, telling an npc to do something during combat would be quite difficult being that there would be gunfire/explosions/people running around on fire. I think that it would be pretty good to have a 1 ap command that would be less successful, a 2 ap command that would have a better chance of success on up to maybe 3 or 4 ap(or it could just stop at 2). The only things that I can see affecting whether the person obeys the command would be the distance from the npc(can they hear you?), and maybe STR(how loud you can yell), INT (being able to articulate what you are going to say(seriously, 'attack the guy wearing leather armor' isn't too specific)), CHR(not sure how this would effect it, but it effects NPCs so use it anyway) and speech skill(not sure about speech skill because your NPCs don't usually have a mental breakdown during the game, and they are also pretty easy to convince too).
