Strange problem FO2

Me

First time out of the vault
I think there's something really wrong with my copy of the game or my computer. Im not really good with computers so i dont know much about the problem, but here goes.
After installing FO2 I played it for a while then I quit the game, and came back later.
When started up the game it would show the "please wait" screen, then it closed down the game and went back to the desktop, and it just keeps on doing that.
It also happened with FO1, but I somehow fixed that, and I don't remember how.
Please help!!!

you need to have the cd in the drive for fallout to work..
(strangely enough, i had my fallout 1 disc in and fallout 2 worked ok.. ??)

it looks on the cd for the copy lock prevention, if nothing else..

I was scratching my head for days trying to get fallout 1 working..

But I already have the CD in, it still doesn't work.
And again, I'm pretty much a computer n00b, so I don't understand the terms your using.

I'm not sure, but I think it's windows 95. How do I check that?
By the way something new happened:
Now it still shows the "please wait" screen, but then a window pops up, saying:
wmConfigInit::Error loading Encounter Table!

Then a blue screen where I have to choose between pressing:
Ctrl, Alt, Delete to restart the computer.
Or
Any other button to terminate application.

I choose to press Enter, and the blue screen turns up again twice, then a black screen with a window saying:
Explorer caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:00007559.

I dont understand any of that, I sure hope someone can help me.

To check the operationg system press Start, Settings, Control Panel, System. There you should be able to see what OS and what version is it.

If you really have Win95 I recommend you change it to some newer OS (like WinMe or WinXP).

What problems there are with Fallout under WinMe?

Generally everything, a few guys i know pretty much lived with it with few crashes or weird glitches, but the majority had to give up, memory problems, coming back to the desktop, blue screens, you name it...

Well the game returns to the desktop sometimes (but not often) spawning kernel32.dll error... but this also happened on Win98. I never had any mem problems or blue deathscreens. The only problems I know about are with Melchior when he talks to you as you approach (the messages are shown too quickly) but this happens on WinNT as well. The other problem is the one I described in this section... and it's the only one which happenes on WinMe from what I know.

i have xp, and am running fallout 1 and 2 with no problems and not in compatibility mode..??

i must have put this beast together right..

as for the "encounter table" error message... it seems that it is not loading the worldmap.txt file properly..

i had the same problem when i edited it, it just kept crashing back to the desktop right after the splash screen....

Somehow the game just started working again, with no problems whatsoever. It's really strange, it's excactly the same problem as with FO1. They both started working after some time, and never cause problems again.
But thanks for all your help anyways.

im having the same problem

using windows xp. i patched the game. im playing fallout 2 by the way. and it always goes back to windows. i never get an error message. and no matter what compability i run at. it never works. please help! i have the cd in and everyhting . just 6 months ago everything worked fine. now i cant even run the fallout 2 map editor.

i updated drivers for both audio and video cards but that was it. i rolled back the drivers for the video card and that didnt do it. and i doubt its the audio card. i really think its windows xp but i dont know what to change.

It just started doing that shit again, oh well, I guess I'll just wait till it starts working again.
I still havent got a clue why this happens, I'll try to ask customer support or something.
Anyway, I gotta go to work now so I'll talk to you guys later.
