Johnny Angel
First time out of the vault
The fact that I can't pause this game to issue commands is crippling to my enjoyment of the real-time mode. I don't doubt that there are some people who, when the combat starts, can quickly and effectively micromanage all six soldiers at once. I myself can't, and so the excitement of the real-time action is lost as I watch soldiers die while I'm trying to figure out who is who and continually failing to select my troops by clicking on them (Am I doing something wrong here, or is this not supposed to be possible?).
Well, in turn-based mode, none of this matters, since I have all the time in the world to make decisions, giving me a lot more influence over a battle than I ever had in the other Fallout titles. That was fun. But still, a pause key that allowed me to issue commands, and which didn't put up this box that blocked my view would be fantastic.
Some people may complain that this pause key would make the game too much like Baldur's Gate. But the combat pause in Baldur's Gate was a good idea, a tremendous gameplay innovation, and I think it would be tragic to miss the opportunity to use it in Fallout: Tactics.
But they don't have to listen to me because they've got my money. I've already pre-ordered. Honestly, I ought to have my employer just send a cut of my paycheck to Interplay every month. But just the same, I feel that as a supporter of the franchise, and as a person who's generally right, my opinion warrants attention.
Thank you.
