"Stupid" Dialogue

The Wandering Milkman

First time out of the vault
So I forget if anyone made an actual thread for this or not yet, but here goes nothin'.

Anyone else remember the good times in the previous games where if your intelligence was.. lacking.. it would affect your dialogue and options when it came down to interacting with people and objects? I remember the good times of playing a complete and total retard that even my fellow tribe members thought was 'special' in the head back during Fallout 2.

I loved the interactions with machinery, such as hooking my PipBoy up to one of the Vault City computers, and shaking my fist at it or the likes. I loved running away screaming at something that startled my simple-minded character, or shouting at NPCs like a moron.

And goddammit, I loved talking to another person with just as little intelligence and having it be translated into an actual conversation that only those two understood.

..So I ask: Why the hell didn't they include that in this one, and is anyone planning on making a mod for it?

I never tried that! Wow, that opens up a whole new world to me.

I imagine the previous dialogs were much easier to edit since it was all text. Fallout 3 is voice, so it will take extra voice acting, effort and storage space. It was probably deemed more costly and unnecessary. That's my take.

If we modded in an intellect based speech path, we are going to have to record a different speech tree with different dialog in vaious voices.

Because they outright admitted that the story and dialogue were written by monkeys chained to typewriters...

frankly, I don't have a problem with dialogues without speaking and forced subtitles. Morrowind was that way, and it was -fine-. Bethesda spends too much effort on voice acting.

I've said this before, but I think most voice acting should be stripped out and dialogues should be presented without zooming straight in at the character's head.

For a few key characters, have it zoom in and use voice acting to replicate Talking Heads

Beth is not really putting too much work into the voiceacting
I saw an interview with an actior who dubbed fallout games - both Fo2 and Fo3. And he said Fo3 was tonn of hard work, matching effort they had put into Fallout 2... just ponder it, Fo2 with a dozen of talking heads had about as much voice acting as Fo3 with several times as many talkable NPCs

On the point of 'stupid speak' optioins mod - it would take re-writing most of the dialogues and many quests too. Crazy ammount of work.
