The same way as Origin and other developer houses. EA buys them up if they are public, or give the owners a very tasty offer, then EA goes in and skullfucks the dev house and franchises with their incompetence, while at the same time using one or more items to shamelessly cash in on more money through very questionable ethics. Molyneaux looked at that and moved on, since Bullfrog was becoming an extension of EA and more corporate entity than software development house.
If EA games like The Sims were really moddable, though they shit out a vapid expansion every 3-6 months, you would find that most real modders around should be charging money for doing obviously more progressive work. Though, we know what kind of environ EA devs often have to work in, this might not be the same for the shameless whores. They might be the Shitty (Shiny) of Interplay's old dev houses.
Very little work, big paycheck and more half-ass "expansions" that are so very like Feargus' bullshit SLAM DUNK!s. Just like the shit that has been coming from OSI...well, now that EA has had the good graces to admit they've killed Origin, we can now safely say the Ultima Online expansion bullshit releases while the lazy devs do nothing, much less have any knowledge of in-game security, is typical of the EA primadonnas.
The people who made up the once great and now lobotomized dev houses are usually scattered around because they often do have ill memories involving many of the members, or tension might chafe too much at that team cohesion, and that is truly a shame. Newer people are put on the continuing titles (MMORPG, expansions, etc.) at lower cost to maintain them, as the old originals leave from abuse/disgust.
