First time out of the vault
After beating FO2 for the second time (and doing all those quests I missed the first time), I've decided to try taking on FOT with a solo character. No squaddies allowed. Has anyone ever tried this before? Any suggestions?

I'm going for a stealthy sniper with max AP, to minimize my numerical disadvantages via range and favorable terrain/positioning. Small guns, Sneak, and Doctor are tagged, and I will probably have to Tag! energy weapons later to do any damage vs. robots.

It was a hard decision, but I took Fast Shot instead of Finesse, along with Gifted. I would like to maximize my instant-kill criticals (with targeted shots), but I felt that I'd have to make up for having only one gun by shooting more often. Maybe I'll have to Mutate that later.

Bunker Alpha's missions were a breeze; perhaps even easier than if I took squaddies along. Farsight and Stitch went on a suicide charge in the first mission and I haven't recruited since then. I'm noticing that I have a lot more equipment like stimpacks and ammo available since there's only one of me. I'm dreading the Kansas City mission where you have to defend the church from three sides; it may prove to be impossible, and I might have to recruit defenders for that mission only. I can't think of any other potentially impossible situations though...

Game has been out for quite a while now, I'm sure people have tried just about everything.

Sniper is rather handicapped without targetting, with those skills you'd be better off sneaking in close with a shotgun. If you do mutate you can always tag science it'll help against the robots. Cheaper than building up energy weapons from scratch, since there's several books to pump your skill up and useful with those nodes.

I wasn't aware that Science helped when fighting robots... what does it do specifically? Or do you just mean for the mission items that require it?

The Kansas mission will be pretty much impossible without recruiting squaddies. But I guess it largely depends on the difficulty setting.

And then you have the mission where you have to disable the six power nodes simultaneously, that will basically be impossible doing solo, unless there's some kind of trick I'm unaware of..

Anyway, tell us how it goes. Take some screenshots, if you please. I wish I could try it out for myself, but my FOT CD is broken..

The power nodes in that mission can all be disabled simultaneously using explosive traps with a remote detonator, and I think I recall that using Science or Repair on one will disable it permanently... not positive on that last point though.

Just finished Preoria and am working on Quincy. I had to do the second half of Preoria all in TB to prevent the villagers from being slaughtered. I couldn't turn off the turrets after I got past the locked door! I suppose I could have overdosed all the turrets on drugs (had lots of afterburners after Macomb), but I think of that as cheating even worse than using TB to prevent the turrets from popping up. I also had a lot of ammo issues on that level; I'm limited to what my one guy can carry, and there's not a lot of ammo to be found on that level.

Quincy is hard! Deathclaws are tough to solo, and I'm hoping it's possible to save the power plant without losing any civillians.

As for the Kansas mission: defend the *south* gate first. Then move to the west gate, the ghouls should be able to hold it untill you can help them.
The ghouls should be able to handle the north gate by themselves.

Also, when soloing, a vehicle mission is your best friend. Since a vehicle has unlimited storage capacity.
