Tactics Tech Questions and some Other Tactics Questions

First time out of the vault
I had stoped playing Tactics a few months ago since I need to get a new hard drive for my computer. I start playing Tactics again in the past 2 weeks and have been having some technical problems.

Ok the tech problems are:

1.) If I make several saved games, after awhile Tactics won't let me save any games and all my previous saved games don't show up. The only thing that seems to fix this is exiting out of Tactics and rebooting Windows.

2.) The game keep crashing on some missions. I get an invalid page fault error. Mission 16 Canyon City was crashing constantly. I ended up having to save my game numrous times and reotting my computer after each crash to get past the mission. Mission 15 had numerous crashes when I was using my main character to clean out a building of robots , I ended up using a squad member instead of my main character to avoid the crash.

3.) When ever I exit out of Tactics and try to run another program, my computer freezes up. The only thing I can do is reboot Windows after playing Tactics. I don't rember Tactics doing that before.

4.) I started a new Tactics game and uped the difficulty level. When I was heading back to the Alpha Bunker after Mission 3 I got told that it couldn't load the game.

Any help or advice on dealing with the tech problems I'm having with Tactics.

My system specs are:
PII 450
Windows 98 SE
384 MB SDRAM
Video Card is a Nvidia TNT2 Model 64 (Gateway)

Now I do have some non-tech Tactatics Questions these are:

a.) Is there a complete list of where all the special enqunters are? I rember seeing a JPEG map showing all the locations months ago.

b.) What does the yellow nuka cola do? I know it is poisonous. The Sybex Stratergy Guide says that it makes a special encounter more special. The author of the book also repeats this in an interview about the game on the Sybex website. I know the Sybex Guide for the game was written using a beta version of the game so I'm not sure if the yellow cola and the special encounter has changed.

c.) What do you do in the Phi the Nuka Cola Guy encounter?

d.) I'm replaying the game and I'm about to do the Preoria mission. Any advice on destroying the turrents. Last time I only bothered to destroy the 3 surface ones so I'd get the 4th battery.

To destroy the turrents in preoria, you dont have to. Just have a person stationed next to the switch to the door, then have someone stand next to the door, flip the switch and have the people next to the door run to the second room and then turn off the switch. Theres about 10 second delay on the turrents and if your fast you dont have to bother with them.

If you had to destroy them for some reason, then station 2 people on the cliff so that the are as close to the ground turrents as possible, then have 3 people in between the 2 turrents on the ground and if they are strong enough and well equipped then you should destroy them no problem.

You have patched the game, again, right?

You don't mention your HD did you buy a new one or a second hand drive, have you tried defragging your drive and reinstalling the game. Is virtual memory turned on? Is your Direct x up to date, which drivers are you using for your graphics card?

There used to be on a French site, but people haven't been able to find it recently so it's probably no more.

Gives you ten poison points and that's it. The entity name should say it all, nukaUrine.ent.

Same as all the other special encounters, not a lot, though you can try and kill him if you want.

If in CTB you don't need to destroy them, just run past the first turrets and try and avoid the others. In the second section you can turn them off, as XB says with the switch. In TB flipping the switch should turn off the above ground turrets but if combat mode has started the other turrets won't deactivate. If you really need to kill them, aim for the sensors (eyes), or get in close with diamond spears or a power fist etc.

Thanks
My Direct X is 9.0c
The Hard drive is a new 40 Gb one with 14 gb used.
The video card drivers are up to date.
Virtual memory is on.
I haven't tried a reinstall of the game. The tech problems didn't start till I got to the last few missions in the game. Before that I would get the occasional odd crash. The game is fully patched.
The last time I installed the game and patched it was back in November. I did play it a few times shortly after that install, but I didn't get chance to play out the last 10 missions and spend a lot of time on the game till 2 weeks ago.
I have run a scan disk and defraged the system recently.
I'm not sure if it is the game or something running in the background that is causing the problems.
On a clean boot of the system I'm getting 80% or 85% system resources free.
The last error messege I got was last night I had gotten back to the alpha bunker after finishing mission 3. Saved my game. I took my squad exploring to the Titanic location and to the poker playing game encounter, when I tried to get back into the Alpha Bunker the game gave me an error messege saying that it couldn't load the bunker.

Real quick update on the tech problems. I deleted about half of the saved games I had for Tactics and the freeze up when exiting Tactics has stoped. I was able to open other programs with out trouble, etc. So I'm wondering if the number of saved games you have is a reason the game will crash and cause problems.
When I was playing the game back in November and December I'd usually have around 4 saved games.
Right now I have 5 saved games and I had around 11 before. I also noticed that save games take up more space latter on so I'm not sure if that influences the saved game problem.
My saved game of the last mission of Tactics, before I deal with the brains is over 3.9MB while the saved game after mission 3 on a higer difficulty is less than 1 MB. Most of the saved games I deleted were from the last campaign and were from various points of mission 19 amd 20.

No 1 Don't double post, the edit button is there for a reason.

No 2 It's very doubtful, unless you've got problems with your HD. You should be able to save as often as you've got room enough on your drive. My HD is 25GB with 10GB free and roughly 30 saved games. I think the largest is around 5.5MB.

Thanks
Sorry about the double post.
Do you have any ideas on how to check that the hard drive isn't causing the problem? I have run scan disk and defraged the system.
Is there anything else I should check on.
I do know that I used to get around 89-90% system resources on a clean boot, but I'm getting 80% now, several programs that run when Windows loads were updated a few months ago so I think the newer versions are eating up more resources. So any advice on how to see if it is a resource issue?

I wouldn't know, we've reached the limit of my technical knowledge, though I'd check for spyware.

A PII 450 is not much over the minimum requirements, perhaps it's having trouble running some of the other stuff you've updated along with FOT. Then again as I said we've reached the limit of my technical knowledge.

Thanks.
Weirdly the game ran perfect yesterday evening with out any crashes or problems and I was able to make save 20 games without problems.
I contacted my computer manufacure to see if they could offer any help. They said most likely it is the updated versions of background programs using up a bit more system resources. They also said that it could be room heat contributing to the problems. The heat in the room the computer is in doing summer, even with an AC on max might be a problem with some programs apparently.
I suspect that most likely it is a combination of the two.
