Taking FarCry2 into the Fallout world

Still Mildly Glowing
I must say that this new Dunia engine is probably the best engine to date. It does the job of the cryengine2 but runs much much better.

Now playing through this game, the desolance, outposts, desert and poverty stricken african lands made me feel like I was playing in a rebuilt america after the bombs fell. It was the US 200 years after the great war. Even one or two musical tracks reminded me of a couple fallout scores.

Now this would be a fantastic engine to put a fallout mod on. It is superior in every way to Bethesda's. I would think that a modder would want to work with a good engine rather than a shitty one.

This of course would be a total conversion mod, but it is very do-able. Now it could be turn based and isometric or not, but it would be great to do that first person fallout view. I am sure turn based could be done. I'm not against a first person fallout, I just want it done correctly.

I think it could be fantastic. Much much better than bethesda's fallout 3 and would probably run much better as well.

It seems like it's a little bit early to be making that determination. Yes, Fallout 3 is basically using Oblivion's engine, but I understand it has undergone quite significant core changes since Oblivion's release, and it really was quite a good engine to begin with (even if it's system requirements for smooth operation were a bit high)

To make it short: the lack of good engines is not near the main reason that there is no spiritual Fallout 3 game in the making by fans.

There are enough proper engines around, open source and commercial ones. What is needed is a team of dedicated fans who are willing to invest their free time for several years to create something that others play for free. Not the most satisfying job, that is.

It's prolly better asking where to find dedicated developers for such a game than bringing up new possible perfect engines up again and again.
