Taking the D20 Challenge

First time out of the vault
I've been playing around with a new way to play Fallout: New Vegas (extends to Fallout 3 and other big RPG's). The basic premise is to use dice rolls to make all the decisions in the game. This includes character creation, Level up, conversations and quick travel.
The "rules" I've hashed out so far:
  • Quick travel before lvl 10, roll a D4, 1 or 2 you can quick travel. 3 or 4 you're walking
  • Quick travel lvl 10+ you roll a D4. 1 gets you where you want to go, 2 gets you the next nearest, 3 gets you the closets after that etc.
  • If you pass a skill check in conversation always take that option (roll if there are multiple speech checks you pass)
  • If a decision in conversation doesn't end a quest you can roll again with the NPC
  • On Level up distribute skills using the dice. I use a D20 and reroll anything over 13 ( you could reassign these to other skills if you want to make your character more specialised)
  • Perk choice is just done using whatever dice most closely matches the number of perks you have available.
  • When doing a quest always try to take it to a conclusion ie. fail the quest or complete it, don't leave it hanging.
  • Should you wish at any given moment you can roll to straight up murder someone
  • Generally if someone attacks you, attack them back

The idea being you have to complete the game using the character and choices you end up with. A set of D20 dice can get you through pretty much any decision you have to make.

I've been recording a Let's Play using these rules, see the playlist here

If anyone is interested in taking the challenge themselves I would be interested to know.

Interesting concept. Meta-roleplaying? I guess that's not the right term, but it sounds cool anyway.
Haven't checked out the playlist, but I really like the idea. I'll modify it a bit and try it out...someday.
