Talking Heads

One suggestion- more talking heads and better talking heads. I missed these fellows in Tactics. The quality of the talking heads in FO2 didn't compare with F01, but I liked the idea of NPC's as talking heads.

Skip the bullshit easter eggs, but FO without talking heads? Don't think so.

Talking heads are definitely cool. After playing fallout 2 for the zillionth time I went back to fallout 1 and couldn't believe how many talking heads there were. Talking heads are definitely a plus, and if we don't get every head talking, I would at least like a picture of the person when you talk to them. It's so cool to get a face on vision of the people you're talking to.

I agree. The only problem with talking heads is that each one need a person to do the voice and that costs money.

Not necessarily. They don't really need a serious voice actor for every part, just someone who will take the voice acting seriously. They could look into their own staff to get at least some of the voices. I can't imagine that out of all the people that worked on the games, there won't be a least a few of them with voices suitable for some characters.

i liked the option on fallout 1 where you could type in your own message and they would answer...... mabey they could add more replys

??? They didn't have talking head in FOT.

I think that was their point, with further comment about the speech system.

Yes, the speech parser was a nice touch, and added some depth. I doubt a lot of people bothered with it, sadly enough. A response pool or filter reply system wouldn't be that difficult either.

Now with talking heads, I think there's some pictures around showing how they were made. Took a long time and money, but they were worth it.

I used the "ask about" option the first time I played through Fallout, but never again. I was kind of disappointed by the limited amount of info you got, combined with the fact that there wasnt an audio file for the answer. Maybe either more info, or audio files for them would have made it more enjoyable.

I agree that the heads are a must have for fallout 3. However, some of you guys don't realize how hard pro voice acting is. A few years ago I was working on an amateur adventure game with a small team and we wanted to have speech: when you get to it you find out that even people who sound very cool for the part in RL often do a terrible job as voice actors. It takes skills and talent to do this thing right.

So I guess that the best thing to do is to have voice only for the most important characters (still more than in Fallout 2 or even 1!) but have the head render for almost every character who has something to say.

I like the idea of talking heads and also agree that they are a must have in FO3 but I think it may delay in producing the game so there's a downfall for all of us yet again I reckon it's worth the wait.

However if they are planning on using 3d then they could use a program like Maya or lightwave then all they have to do is making the primary animation for the head talking and then anytime they need a talking head just apply a new mesh over it.
It wont delay the game to much and almost anyone can use both of these programs
