Tech Vault Workgroup looking for a few good men

The Tech Vault Workgroup, a Russian group, is working on Mutant's Story, a Fallout-based fan project. They have both announced their existence and are asking for a few more team members.

Now don’t laugh, but there’s another Fallout Fan Project on the horizon.
It’s called Mutant’s Story, and it’s an RPG that takes place in the Fallout universe. It tells the tragic tale of a supermutant who’s desperately trying to find his rightful place in the world of the Wastes. The game plays from the first person, with locations (both old and new) done in total 3D.

It’s a Russian project, but we’re doing the Russian and English language versions simultaneously, and we’ve finally gotten our English website up (it isn’t much, but you can at least check out the renders).

We’re working on our demo-version at the moment – still finalizing points on design, doing graphics and programming the game engine. But there’s a catch– we need help.
To be more specific, we desperately need at least another 3D Max specialist for rendering locations and models.
We’re also looking for another artist and someone to do the music and/or sound effects, but this is nothing that’s currently slowing us down. Still, it would be really nice if someone came along)

So why don’t you check it out at

And if you think you can lend a hand, then write to Setau at yurifokin@spacenet.ru

They have a large number of object renders at their site, as well as a synopsis of their plotline and game engine.

I don't know why, but original Doom came to mind.
Still, the pictures look nice and it seems the guys have got most things figured... That bodes well.

It is rather nice that they have something to show for their efforts before announcing themselves. It's a good start.

Sticking very close to Fallout as well, far as objects are concerned.

Perhaps they should just use the Source engine and become Valve's bitch numero je ne sais quoi.

That, or make the engine look less barren and well, TV-documentary-3D-animation-ish. It better be a super-early alpha.

Would everyone hate me if I made a Fallout mod for HL2? Because that's the original mod idea I had, but thought I would be hated for even attempting it. I mean, we all have a reputation for skullraping Fallout FPS ideas. Meh, it'll never get done anyway.

That looks pretty damn good. So... is there combat or what? Oh, and instead of a journal I think they should use a pipboy. Other than that, solid start!

from the looks of it, it appears to one of those myst-style adventure games, with a few action and puzle sequences.

(edit: according to the site, the actual game will not be prerendered. so like Real myst???)

Think RPG/Adventure. We've got a self-contained (though somewhat strange) roleplaying system, but any combat is just done in the form of mini-games.

So...anyone here want to lend a hand? ;)

I suggest stepping away from the wolfenstein view approach. It feels way claustrophobic, and currently it doens't look like there's enough detail to enable a myst alike approach (well, not if you plan on rendering it). Personally, I really like the top view renders, and with some effort, that could provide a nice enviroment if you can get the lightening done properly.

Yeah, sorry, I'm a bit harsh here. It certainly is an interesting project. I am (or better, used to be) a 3D max modeller, but I haven't done any real work in that field in, what, 3 years ? And since I'm pretty busy, I'm afraid I can't lend a hand at the moment.

Keep it up though.

Setau: Don't doublepost, edit the previous one.

As for the PIPBoy - that's a mutant, where would he get a PIPBoy (Granted, he could be a 'prime human' and therefore retain his original Vault PIPBoy... but is that likely?)

Yeah, sorry about that - I double-posted the previous answer by accident and didn't know how to delete it afterwards.

No, the game is going to be first-person mostly, we just need to put a whole lot of effort into detail.

Pipboy, eh? Well...the supermutant won't have one initially, that's for sure...but it might be nice if he could take it off the corpse of someone, that would be fun - I'll have to think about it.

I just think a Pipboy would give it a more authentic fallout feel. It seems like the journal would fulfill the same purpose, so why not go with a fallout original?

Because it doesn't make sense.

A mutant doesn't even have fingers small enough to use a PipBoy. So even if he HAD one, it wouldn't make sense.

The reason the Master kept some humans alive and used them as his servants was that the Mutants couldn't operate most of the machinery, mostly because the majority of them is too dumb and the rest has sausage fingers.
