My computer is having "those days" again.

Since yesterday, I cannot use it. Everytime I turn it on, it passes the POST, maybe even loads up Windows, but after about a minute it freezes, just like that.

There is absolutely no pattern to that - it can freeze while displaying the Asus splash screen, it can freeze while displaying the BIOS "Overclocking failed!" message, it can even freeze while modifying BIOS variables to a safe value.

It's excessively weird:
1. If it freezes, reset or switching off power doesn't work. I have to unplug it, leave it for a few minutes, then turn it back on.
2. When it boots up after that, the BIOS consistently displays an "Overclocking failed!" error message, prompting me to either reset the settings or manually set them up in the Bitch.
3. Even if it somehow manages to load up Windows, it freezes within a minute of loading everything.

It's quite annoying, as it's my primary gaming rig and I really want to play New Vegas (more). And Far Cry 2.

My motherboard is an Asus P5B, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.77 Ghz, 2 GB RAM DDR2 and GeForce 7900 GS.

The weirdest part is that after such a stunt, it can load up normally and I can play for hours without a problem...

Have you tweaked your voltages in the BIOS to anything non-default?
It seems very irregular, so I guess it's a mechanical (more or less) problem. I think it might be a capacitor or something like that.
I'm no expert, but my guess is that something's busted in there.
Have you tried to reset the BIOS to default by removing the battery (or maybe jumpers, I'm not familiar with the P5b. I have a P5e, you can only reset that one to factory setting by removing the battery for a few minutes).
Other than that, I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Wait, it can run out of juice?
Yes. But mostly, the BIOS will just reset to factory settings.
My battery is actually running out, and whenever I turn off the power supply for a few days, the BIOS and everyhting resets and I have to set everything again. It shouldn't produce crashes and freezes, though.
