Text Speed

Tataunka

First time out of the vault
Hey, so newbie here trying to get into Fallout 1. Issue is the text disappears far too quickly when I'm talking to unvoiced NPCs. I'm missing out on lots of information because I just can't keep up with it. I've already pushed the slider for text speed all the way to the left yet it's still to quick. Is there any other fix for this, or am I SOL? I really want to get into this game, but it's beginning to look like my slower reading speed may be the nail in the coffin for me giving Fallout 1 a go. :-/

I think you mean the floats? I'm not sure if any of the mods like FIXT actually help with that. You could try messing with the fallout.cfg file manually, the settings should be text_base_delay and text_line_delay. The values are from 1.000 to 6.000 usually, maybe it will also accept smaller or larger values? (Probably not, it will likely fuck everything up ;))
They usually don't contain THAT much important information to begin with, though, if the character has something meaningful to say you usually get a proper dialogue box.

Nah, it's the actual dialogue boxes. Like when I was talking to Ian in Shady Sands his dialogue on some things shifted to the next page too quickly.

You can scroll up. Just move the cursor to the top of the dialogue text, it should turn into an arrow. Clicking then scrolls up.

Eh, we've all been massive noobs about seemingly obvious things before :D
Have fun with Fallout 1! I envy you that you can now experience it for the first time, hope you enjoy it!
Also, stick around in the forums, new blood's always welcome. Feel free to introduce yourself here, too.

Thanks! I'll be sure to stick around. I tend to have lots of questions on games so if I continue playing and go on to Fallout 2 you'll probably be seeing a lot more questions from me. LOL

That's what NMA is here for after all. Well, that, and being a cesspool for the nostalgia-blinded glittering gems of hatred that can't accept anything made after 1999 ;)
