The Clue

Still Mildly Glowing
The Clue

What I wonder is if anyone knows if there are any other game like it which is as good. If there aren't I sure wonder why none have tried to make some sort of spiritual sequel.

I remember playing it long ago on the Amiga and I also remember how much I loved it. When I recently saw it for the PC I just had to download it, and in my humble opinion it still rocks.

You play some small time crook in 50's-60's London who is trying to make the big score. To begin with you only have the resources and skills to successfully break into small shops and the like, but when you have gathered enough experience and money through small time heists you can finally go for the big stuff. National museum, Bank of London, Towern, and others. Planning for the jobs is the key feature as I see it. You have to scout the target for a few days, find the right crew, buy the tools and find a getaway vehicle. It's also a good idea to spot a good fence before the job. Then you go in to the tactical planning. The tactical map that have an accuracy relative to how throughout your survey of the place was. You plan the heist second for second, dealing with guards, disabling alarms, picking locks, etc. When that is ready you can proceed with the robbery/burglary itself. During this phase you only control the main character, the others are acting (as good as they can) according to plan. If it takes too long you might have to get away before the plan has been carried off. You might also have to outrun the bobbies (you don't actually drive yourself) if they are on to you. After the job you do the usual after-the-job thingies. Sell off the loot, outwit nosy cops and start planning for the next job.

Anyway, this is a real gem, go play it! And tell me if you know of any similar games!
