The dreaded "couldn't find/load text fonts" error.

According to some wiki site, the problem is associated with the language version of fallout 2.

I'm pretty sure I have the english version.

I mean the whole game is in english.

So why isn't it working?

I have mods installed. So maybe that's it?

Wasteland merc 2. That's about it.

Can also be an issue of master.dat gone bad. Had it that way once.
Just copy the one of your cd into the Fallout2 main folder and state yes, replace.
You have a humongous install, do you?

Check fallout2.cfg (open with wordpad).

• 1. Does the music_path1 point to the correct folder?
  
  2. Does critter_dat point to the correct folder/file?
  
  3. Does master_dat point to the correct folder/file?
  
  4. Do critter_patches and master_patches look in the right place?

I've had this error when I change the directory structure (like copying to a thumb drive and moving to a different computer). Fix the filepaths and you should run again--or at least you'll limit your possible errors.

I changed the paths pointing to the cd drive, and copied some files over. I'm still experiencing that blasted error.


Does the mapping program have ANYTHING at all to do with the fallout 2 game executable?

Could that be interfering with it's operation?

Have you consulted these links in the gameplay and tech forum?

Follow the instructions, copy master.dat and critter.dat and change the config file to look for those files in your fallout2 folder.

I must have a weird version of fallout 2 that the program doesn't like.

I did some alterations to the config file for the mapper.cfg file and re-RE installed fallout 2 and it worked! Woohoo!
