the earth at night

Interesting picture of the world at night. Note the light and dark places of the world in terms of poverty and development.

Africa really is the dark continent.

Still India is impressive.

Very cool pic, Welsh.

It's interesting to see how packed the eastern half of the US is, not to mention Japan.

Africa is dark because it is mostly huge desserts and jungle. Take a look at Australia, there is not much light there neither because of the great dessert in the center, the population is located mostly in the coastal area.

About India: Lights say where most population is concentrated, they are not a reliable poverty indication, they do not say if that population is rich or poor.

Tsk, tsk. Didn't search the forum, did we? ;)

At any rate, Arabia looks pretty impressive, given that it's mostly a desert too.

I agree with Wooz there, the way light twists and turns around the Nile is sweet.

It looks like anything that can be discussed has been, might as well close down the forums now.

I'm more impressed with the branching structures along the Trans-Siberian Railway.

I edited that pic a while ago so the lights were red instead of white. It looks much cooler that way.
At least, so you say. I much prefer the original.

Oh no, calculon00 has opened the door to the evil anti-Earth!

NOTHING WILL BE THE SAME

Yeah a Chinese friend of mine showed me this picture a year or two ago. I have wanted to look at it again for so long. Nice to be able to see it once again.

Yeah, I know we posted a similar pic. My bad. Still it's cool to look at.

I agree, the Trans Siberian railway is pretty freaking cool.

The reason I posted is because we got a big ass map from National Geographic that not only shows the light, but it also shows natural fires, burn off from natural gas and even night fishing. Very cool. But haven't found it on the net.

That picture of part of the world in darkness and part in light is pretty cool.

Pakistan only has about a tenth on India's population, but has about the same energy use per person, that's why. Africa is the really dark one.

Damn you, KSMoTO, your resurrection worked!

What is scary is that if you bumped up Britain to the same size as the U.S., it'd probably look pretty much the same light pollution wise.
