Well if you haven't heard some idiotic politicians have decided to from a European army. This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The US generals see it as a threat to NATOs existance and I agree. Why would we rather be working with France or Germany than America? The government has cut our military to the bone already now they're talking about sending a big chuck of it away to be part of this army!

For a start without American equipment they'll be crippled. Europe just hasn't spent the money on their armies like America has. The radio systems, the bombers, the money, the heavy duty aircraft we possess none of these to the same standard. The infrastructure just isn't there.

England has had a long alliance with America why endanger it with this stupid idea? Simple reason Tony Blair (the prime minister) wants to look good to the Euro parliament. He can't get the Euro through so he's trying this.

It makes me wonder too. Military expenditures are a huge chunk of spending for a country. That's one reason why Japan is so successful, they don't have a real military of any kind (the USA mandated that they couldn't after WWII and that we'd protect them if needed). It would be very costly for those countries, especially in leu of the fact that mother Europe was in such dire financial straights that they had to form the Euro to even compete with the Dollar.

What would a European Army (EA) do? Even the combined power of Europe could not hold a candle to the United States army or even China's. The USA's been doing all of NATO's dirty work anyway. What would the EA be defending against, unless they're thinking the USA is thinking of invading Europe which I highly doubt (believe me, you can have Europe, it's more trouble than its worth).

They should spend the money on building the internal infrastructure, especially when they can depend on the USA to protect Europe if for some reason another power decides to invade..

Dumb dumb dumb...

can you hear that big flushing sound? its EU trowing money in the toilet and pulling the handle. I think europe has this complex where they need to beat america in military prowess. in this day and age an army that large neednt be formed. And this totally undermines NATO, and the UN.

I dont need to say anymore becuase its been said and asked,
except for, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON EUROPE

What I don't get is why the British - who've won war after war after war against ethe French and Germans - are now simply handing their country over to their former enemies on a silver platter?

<sarcasm> The EU is really great about things like jury trials, or traditional systems of measurement, or letting people maintain their cultural identity, etc. </sarcasm>

Britain ought to pull out of the EU and join NAFTA or something. And if they're going to join some federal super-state they'd be much better off joining the US then the EU - At least they share a common culture with the US.

So it'll be "Atlantic" instead of "american" If Britain joins. I hear Norway is trying to join as well.

damn, i thought norway was smart. why would they want to invest in such a one sided agreement? mexico and big business are the ones who gain the most leverage in the NAFTA agreement. That doesnt really gel with Norway( i dont really know that much about norway's economy but i assume its similar to sweden.)

Norway's economy is way better than Sweden's. They have oil, Sweden doesn't have shit.

"Blessed are those who break the rules."

I just like to laugh at the Euro and its freefall value. Oh I'm glad England didn't join it.

If a war ever happened England is more than capable of defending itself. When a war starts the entire nation comes together to fight the opponent and well we've proved we don't give in easy.

What do you mean USA does all the dirty work? The UK sends off loads of troops to NATO.

It doesn't seem we Norwegians are that much richer than you though. Most of the oil money goes on account. We have loads of billions in savings, but nothing of it is to use. Government claims it'll raise the interest rate.

Like it could compete with the all-powerful dollar! BWAHAHAHA!!!

You can rant on about your patriotism all you want, but when there is a cruise missile flying towards you, there isn't much you can do.

Iraq's people had/have a lot of patriotism, but what did it do for them?

I highly doubt the USA and England will be fighting it out anytime soon however, they've been pretty good buddies for a while.

Troops schoops, troops are only used to secure a place after it has been defeated. I didn't see England sending any of their bombers to take out installations.

This is modern war, troops are not much of a factor anymore, not when there are long-range weapons to do the work and much more effectively. True, there are some instances where you need troops, but realistically, they are not the factor they used to be.

You make money by spending money. The USA has a huge debt, but a huge economy. Eventually the economy becomes so great you can pay off the debt easily.

BTW the below post isnt anything.

Yup, with London not joining the EA thing, I can agree with paranoid fanatics that it IS a possibility that we'll all be living with Big Brother and talking newspeak soon enough. Yay.

Btw, patriotism sucks. Two million (totally innocent) Iraqi children were brutally murdered by NATO's cluster bombs simply because---well, they pissed off America. No one pisses off America. It's in the Bible. Saddam thinks he is above God, and while he can hide 60ft underground, people hiding in BOMB SHELTERS will be SPECIFICALLY TARGETED by NATO BASTARDS and DIE PAINFULLY simply because THEY WERE BORN.

There's a another side to that, Saddam doesn't have any qualms about putting civilians around military targets to discourage attack.

Damn straight! :)

I don't know about that.

No, because they put themselves in the way. People should not get in the way of smart bombs.
