The Extended Flamer Attack Mod

I wish to pass to the Fallout community a mod that will extend the time a critter attacks with the flame thrower. The original critter animation was made of 4 or 5 frames; this will extend that to 11 and 12 frames respectively. This was designed to counter the rapid speed of the frames when using the Sfall speed modifier function - (great function Timeslip – thank you). This will mean that when a critter is attacked and is in the burning animation sequence, the attacking critter might still be using the flamer on them while they burn.

The frames are based on the original artwork so don't complain if it looks slightly dickey. Every critter that uses a flamer has been adjusted…critters that have been recently built for the Restoration project will be finished after the final release is made public. So don't forget to grab a flamer during your game and start burning…some feedback on its effectiveness would be appreciated. The burning starts here - The Extended Flamer Attack Mod.

EDIT: These animations have been updated - the first frame was removed so you don't get a split second delay in the attack - notice the GIF. My mistake...

These are the extended flame attack FRM’s for the Long Hair critter - (built for Mash’s appearance mod)…just follow the instructions. If people are curious as to why there isn’t one for the tribal version of Mr. Long Hair – well tribals don’t have the flamer animation…Mr. Long Hair's burning starts here - The Extended Flamer Attack Mod – Mr. Long Hair.

EDIT: There is now a new version for the bald player character in the Restoration Project. As the new player characters are finished I'll upload new versions (e.g - Mr Black Dude and Ms Punky). Grab it here - The Extended Flamer Attack Mod – Mr. Bald.

PS: Can anyone recommend a screen recording software that works with Fallout – I tried FRAP’s but with no success…I wanted to show a comparison between the old flamer and new flamer animation in-game.

EDIT: The software I used was BSR Screen Recorder…

Always there...I only touched up one shadow problem with one of the super mutants, everything else is vanilla…and that includes some not so obvious BlackIsle mistakes.

Great work, as always, .Pixote.!

I'm also interested with any answer. I've tried GameCam with no success either...
I wonder if there is any possibility to include a screen recording option in Sfall ?

When I made a video of Shattered Destiny 1, I used Fraps and it worked good.

Oh the flames! they're so beautiful, the shape, the style, and the burning of things, the burning... oh my!

Cool stuff .Pixote. :ok:

BURST-SPIT ATTACK

Good job, Pixote. An idea...Why don't use this animation for BURST attack and create a bright new attack mod for flamethrowers: SPIT with shorter animation?

I’m a lazy mod maker…Josan built a more accurate version of the flame attack, but the work involved is a bit too much for me. This was really built because of the new speed fix in Sfall…when you play the game at 200% speed, the flame attack was over in a split second, and I just wanted to burn the enemies a little longer, hence the extra animation frames. I don’t see the point in a smaller burst attack, just hold down the trigger and melt the suckers. Overall the actual frames for the flame attack are pretty good, but there are certain critters that have only 2 different attack frames in their sequence or are missing the glow effect on their body…BlackIsle were a bit inconsistent there. By the way I’m finishing the frames for the long hair dude, so I’ll update this post in a day or so…

About FRAPs – I tried but couldn’t even get it to record the desktop…are there video cards issues with this software.

I was putting a small flamer animation together, all of the critters have been built and are ready (including the RP critters), but it will require some scripting to work properly – it should be designed as a normal weapon that can be found throughout the wastelands -IMO. I wouldn’t mind a better inventory item than the one I have…

I couldn't record my desktop with Fraps as well. But in games it should work.

Weird... I gave a retry to Fraps but when I play the recorded file,
I only have a black screen (the sound is ok though).

I used Fallout2 + RP2.0 with the high res patch (1280x800) but with
the ddraw option de-activated. Could it be that ?

Possible. When I made my stuff, there hasn't been any sfall yet.

if you are on XP or below, fraps will not record anything from the desktop as it doesn't use directx, vista and windows 7, does use directx to render the aero theme (desktop), running windows 7 64bit and with fraps and sfall enabled, I was able to successfully record a small bit of fallout 2, (sound wasn't enabled) so it works here
