The 'GECK' released with New Vegas...

First off I am TOTALLY new to this, so appologies if this is a ridiculous question, but what is this GECK all about? I read that it allows the public to create their own maps/diaogue/quests, which would lead me to believe that there is a wealth of user- created stuff out there to play? Yet I have never come across it...

Am I getting the wrong end of the stick?? I imagine there would be many users here undertaking projects to create their own characters/stories.

GECK? A Garden of Eden Creation Kit, right? Sorry, never heard about it, youngster. But try to ask in the Vegas.

GECK is the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, a program to to make your own custom content or edit stuff in the game. There's one for the PC version of Fallout 3 but haven't heard about one for New Vegas, maybe it's coming later on.

Ask around the Fallout 3 modding forum, but AFAIK, the Nexus is the place to go. This forum is dedicated almost exclusively to Fallout 1 & 2. As for New Vegas mods, there aren't many of them - the game's been out barely a week.

The New Vegas Nexus has a bunch of mods out already, a good portion of which are just ports of mods made for Fo3.
They probably have around 100 mods out already.

I hear talk that 360 users can use .esp mods, nothing that requires adding (mesh/texture) folders tho.

Probably pretty much the same way they are supposed to work with hacked PS3.
