The Hills Have Eyes

Milo

Still Mildly Glowing
Has anyone seen this yet? hasn't that great, but the very beginning really made me wanna play fallout, radiation, mutants, and even music from the 50s as you watch a nuclear bomb being tested... made me smile

IMDB entry.

A remake of an old Wes Craven movie, not really my type of horror movie (have a hard time thinking of a horror movie I liked anytime recently), so I'm skipping it.

The movie begins with the showing of original footage from some of the 311 nuclear tests that were carried out by the U.S. government in the desert of New Mexico during the years 1945-1992. The government had ordered the local residents to move so they wouldn't get hurt by the atomic tests. But some of the residents (miners) refused to leave their homes, and were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. The miners went to the mines and survived, but their newborn children were genetically altered. The children are now adults, and to survive in the desert, they murder and rob tourists going through the desert. They are not only insane murderers, but they have become blood-thirsty cannibals. The Carter family has an accident in the desert, and they are about to become the next victims. However, Big Bob Carter, (Ted Levine), a retired police detective, isn't going to let that happen.

hmz, might be interesting

probably standard horror shit though...

1992? That seems a bit late for nuclear testing.

The original is a lot of fun. I am actually curious to see if they protray the cities of "crash test dummies" which were made to test the effects of the bomb. They were featured in Kalifornia- not a very good film, but some pretty good final scenes.

dunno about the US, but the frogs were testing their firecrackers on lagoons in tropical paradises til much later than '92.

Heh, same here.

Saw it yesterday. It has a typical 70/80's terror movie-flair. Some sequences were really intensive like the ambush on the trailer by night. Nice noizy and industrial music to emphasize this feeling. Of course there are again big logical flaws like in many horror/terror-movies but that's not the point in this movie in my opinion.

Not bad at all, woth seeing it.

Definitely the best of the recent remake crop. The movie takes its time and doesn't forget to flesh out the characters, thankfully. You really care about their plight and want them to make it out alive.

The original is one of my favorite horror films of all time, and I liked this just as much if not more. Can't wait to get it on DVD.

The disturbing Craven's classic "The Last House on the Left" is a true challenge to be shot today. The Hills Have Eyes followed that movie keeping the gore and torture scenes with a bit of Ruggero Deodato "Cannibal Holocaust" and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm not a fan of gore movies but still loved the original Hills have eyes because it had a certain post-apocalyptic feeling. The atomic tests... The wasteland... Radiation... And a cannibal tribe. I'm going to wait for the DVD.

I want to see this just b/c of the post-apoc kinda round about way it might have sompthing to do with.

Another I liked that is on DVD recently is "A History of Violence" or sompthing like that. I really liked that movie. Even bought the thing. Great acting.

Anywho...

I really like this movie. Just saw it. Felt fresh. The setting really did well on screen.

i thought it sucked.

no real interest other than looking at the scenery.

crappy acting, crappy script, no actual suspense since you dont care what happens to the people in the movie. hell, i was simply curious about how they'd die. thats about it.

It feels like it had done even better IF

1. the main character(s) also came from an post-apoc world (meaning they've actually lived through an apocalypse)

2. it all played out in isometric view

and yeah, almost forgot

3. it featured mel gibson in a full leather suit.. maybe replacing that...

:SPOILER:

...dude with the neck in the wheelchair. ("It's breakfast time...") AWESOME!
