The hype around Fallout 4 was dumbed down too

Remember news about Fallout 3? That was something special (pun intended) considering how big the Fallout phenomenon was (~400k sold copies of two games). With bethesda suddenly buying the franchise, millions of people suddenly popped out and making memes like 'Morrowind with guns, lolz' and implying that it's not right, while others didn't know what's wrong with bethesda, Morrowind was so cool, why not? In 2007 drama continued by this community, NMA wrote NEAR PERFECT Fallout 3 preview, the internet was divided sliced with points of view, neverending drama, Pete Hines trapped by inconvenient questions and critical approach instead of fluffy ones, bethesda fans in war with people who hated Elder Scrolls and by that time, attention to Fallout 3 grew and grew. Followed by A NEAR PERFECT and balanced Fallout 3 review by Vince D. Weller that even touched and provocated even batted unreasonable both TES and Fallout fans, the reaction was hilarious and worked on both sides with both apprecitation and denial states. All of the Fallout 3 hype rendered the game alot better than it was (mediocre) and basically prolonged it's life, modders weren't standing aside and prolonged it's life even further. Hell, followed by Fallout 3 hype, Bethesda even thought about a follow up and commisioned Obsidian to make Fallout: New Vegas while they themselves are busy with Skyrim and FO4. Pretty smart.
I think one of the great weaknesses of FO4's media is because bethesda kept everything in secrecy. The opposite of FO3's promotion.
The point is: Fallout 4 doesn't have this rich history. The media didn't have this high quality and entertainment. The hype wasn't even this rich as folks around here are talking. You guys talking about Fallout 3 hype. Sure there was a joke called 'SURVIVOR 2299' and some leaks of the script and so-called facts that were proven half-true after game's release but that's it. Leaks are usual stuff so that's not counting. The points is that even media are dumbed down, the game quickly gets forgettable and to prolong the life, bethesda doing some questionable stuff like half-assed console mods support followed by mod theft constoversy and questionable DLCs. And yes, I wished NMA made a Fallout 4 preview but, yeah...
Because the game's halfway to be completed, there's only halfway to discuss.

/When the only *good* thing following the game is R34 art, there's something wrong about both the game and bethesda hype machine, don't you think?

As much as I liked the whole "Announced months before release" Fallout 4 got, I think I prefer it when we have speculation for years.

Look at Phantom Pain for example, the marketing behind that game was simply breath-taking.
I remember me and my friend spent months trying to work out theories and predictions, that when the game finally did come to us, the reaction was a great big "It's good".

Yeah, I enjoyed it, and thought the twists were at least Metal Gearish.

But with Fallout 4, speculation was just "eh".

In fact, I kind of predicted years ago on this Forum (well, it was in my Fallout 4 idea from like four years ago, and needless to say, it wasn't well received) that our son would be the antagonist.

The hype was mostly fan made, unlike the hype with Metal Gear Solid V where everywhere we went, there was something about it.

Yeah, MGS is famous for it's fans theories and predictions. While the game was what it was, the hype didn't got any worse than with any previous MGS.

Well, it does sounds stupid enough to not believe it, tbh. And even more stupid when you actually get to this part in the game.

Could you link that post or something?

Looking back on it now, I didn't realise it was for a crappy spin-off idea that I came up with a few seconds just for some cheap emotional shot.
I also want to point out, this was before I realised what the depth of the Fallout series really was, I just saw it as another Post-Apoc thing that I liked.

So yeah, expect a lot of really crap edgy posts back in the day from when I didn't know what Fallout actually was.

Holy shit, everything about Fallout 4 is dumbed down.

First the game, then the DLC, and people are thinking the hype was dumbed down.

I think it's safe to say, this was more traumatizing to Bethesda, than Colonel Autumn was.
