the joker

I saw this a little while ago. I know some people aren't into it, but I like it. If your going to do a new joker, you might as well take it in another direction rather then try and beat Jack Nicholson's joker.

Er, what? I think it's just a joke. The guy in that advertisement for Usenet services has an obscene, Joker-like smile.

As far as I'm aware, that's not the guy who's playing Joker in the next Batman movie. I read a damn article about it, but now I can't remember the name of the guy...

In other disapointing news guess who will be playing Nick Fury in the up comming Iron Man? I'll give you a hint he was in my favorite movie.

I dunno... if you watch the teaser trailer, it sounds like Heath's got things pretty well-in-hand.... he's got juuuust enough of Nicholson's Joker in there, but a lot of his own thing, too. Harder-edged. And Michael Caine has been put down as saying that Ledger is giving an astounding performance. I know that he's probably pretty well-inclined to praise the film, as he also happens to still be in the middle of shooting it, but still... someone with as much class and experience as Caine probably wouldn't toss words like that around unless he meant them.

Word on the street is that Ledger's Joker is going to have scars where his cheeks were cut open from the corners of his mouth to nearly the jawbone. I can't remember what that particular bit of torture is called, but we knew it as a Frisco Smiley where I grew up. I've seen pictures to corroborate, but the only ones left look doctored... Warner Brothers seems to be keeping on top of PR leaks pretty well, and what they don't want seen gets taken down the minute it's up.

I saw that picture of Heath Ledger in Joker makeup with the "Frisco Smiley" scars. I dunno, I liked it. Of course, his performance remains to be seen, but there's certainly nothing wrong with the look.

I just fervently hope it's not a letdown after the very pleasant surprise that was Batman Begins.

I think he's going to pull it off quite nicely. He looks very scary in photos I've seen.

Also, I've heard to referred to as the Glasgow smile.
